Floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, firestorms, tsunamis... disasters come in many forms, leaving an indelible imprint on our hearts and souls. Some disasters rob us of property, some disturb our peace of mind, some impact our ability to earn a living, but the most devastating of disasters cause injury or cost the lives of those we love -- family, friends, companion animals...
Not all disasters involve many people at one time. Some disasters are personal, involving the loss of someone's life in a fishing or diving accident where the remains are difficult to recover. Some disasters, like structure fires and local floods, have an effect on only one or two families. The pain and loss that is suffered by one or one thousand is the same. We are here to help everyone who has lost a loved one suddenly, or faced a devastating flood or other calamity, whether it was a "man-made" or natural disaster.
My fiancé lost his life attempting to save a child who had been swept away in a flood. I witnessed his last moments of life. His remains were not recovered until nine months later. At the time there was very little information and even less support available for survivors of disaster.
For those who have lost loved ones in disasters, although some support is offered through the Red Cross, FEMA, and other agencies, sometime it just isn't enough. Sometimes it helps to chat with others who have shared similar losses.
For those struggling to deal with the life-shattering impact that a disaster can have on their homes and businesses, the frustration of dealing with government agencies can be overwhelming. Members of this group offer support and guidance to one another to help ease the transition from devastation to re-building, from sorrow to healing.
As a courtesy to all who come here seeking information, comfort, and support, we honor confidentiality. And we do not permit solicitations for business or research.
