This is a support group for diabetics. The theme is Byetta, but other discussion is welcome. You are more than your condition, so this list is about your life, not just your condition. Just please no political or religious stuff.

Byetta is an Incretin Mimetic, which is defined at http://www.byetta.com as
"A new class of type 2 diabetes drugs that "mimic" the effects of naturally occurring hormones from the intestines and can help the body make more of its own insulin."

What it does is slow the rate at which your stomach empties, tells your pancreas to pump out insulin, and tells your pancreas not to pump out glucagon. Byetta helps your body keep your blood sugar in the normal range using your body's own mechanisms.

This list has no "official" position on care, except that each person is unique and requires care tailored to them. We don't follow the advice of the ADA or any other organization just because they are "the experts". If there were an official position of this list, it would be "eat what your meter says you can", and keep your levels low.

If you are diabetic, know someone who is, or are just curious about diabetes, then feel free to join.

This list is not moderated, except that new members will be moderated for the first few posts. This keeps out spammers and spambots and the like.

There are not many rules, except perhaps to be nice. If you disagree with someone, or with the moderator/owner, feel free to say so, but no flaming or abuse.
