Hi, I went to oral surgeon in June and had both tops and bottom teeth removed
and immediate dentures put in. I love the tops. I have had no troubles, no
sore spots, they have been perfect. I take them out to clean and keep them in
the rest of the time. The bottoms are totally terrible; so I think it is
good you will have partial. I am still seeing my dentist every two weeks
because
of my bottom dentures. I still can't eat a sandwich, bacon, pickles, celery
pieces in things, etc., Good luck. Carol in St. Louis

hi, I'm new here.. I will be going oct 26 for a full immediate top
denture, then in January I will be getting a partial on the bottom..
Would like to meet others in the same or about the same situation

Make sure you keep going in for your relines, as the swelling goes
down they have to be adjusted. When I had mine done, I ended up
going toothless for about a year (bad dentist) I wasn't told to come
back for relines. Finally in tears I went to a denturist up the road
from my house and he took me in that day and fixed them. I haven't
had any problems since. I don't have to use any adhesive at all.
Oh and by the way, I had all my teeth pulled I think about 20 in
total, when I was only 27. I had very bad teeth, and once I had them
properly lined I have been so happy with them.

Well I have decided to take that big step and get upper dentures, I
go on october 5th to get 3 pulled. Then my dentist said that he was
going to let the back heal and then work on the bottoms, they need
to have root canals and crowns. I hope this all goes well , I really
would hate to have them all pulled and then hate it lol. Well i will
keep everyone posted on how things go.
sorry I forgot to say that it was on yahoo lol

Linda, the upper denture is much easier to learn to wear than a
lower is. You will get used to it pretty quickly, the key to it is
to wear the thing even when it hurts. Keep in touch with the dentist-
live at his office until you are satisfied. You've worn a partial
even for a brief period so you know what it feels like to have
something removable in your mouth. The full upper probably won't
feel much different and eating with it in the early days is like
trying to chew with a snow shovel in your mouth. If you are on good
terms with your mom- ask to examine her denture and her mouth both
with the denture in and out- know what all the pieces and parts look
like. Another thing you might ask the dentist is if he can put you
in touch with another patient around your age who has already gotten
their denture or dentures. It helps to talk face to face with
someone who has been there.

Hello, I am new hear and considering upper dentures but need some
questions answered, I am 28 yrs old, I think I am very young for
this but my mom lost all her teeth at 25 yrs old, she has upper
dentures and can't remember how it felt, I want to know how it feels
when you first get dentures? I tried a partial a couple of months
ago and really couldn't take something being on the roof of my
mouth, How long does it take to get use to that? . Also How are you
able to eat with dentures, I think it would very hard to bite into
things with them in. The dentist can fix the remaining 6 upper teeth
I have but in a few years or so they will all detriate he said to
fix my upper and bottom teeth it would be $11,000 . This is a lot of
money to me. But I feel I don't have a choice anymore. I am not sure
if I want to go through this. Yes I want a great smile but I don't
know if I can learn to speak , chew again and have something huge in
my mouth. can anyone please tell me their stories and how they
overcame all these problems. Thank you
The lower will never fit as well as the upper, but, you must give yourself time to
adjust. For sore gums, try using a soft toothbrush to massage the gums three
times a day. Use 20% benzocaine (rub on the gums) Take an analgesic such as
Percocet or Vicodin every 4-6 hrs as needed. Use a good denture adhesive to keep
the appliance from moving. Rince with warm salt water and keep the mouth and
appliances clean. See your Dentist if soreness percists. Sounds like you may
have bone fragments and they will be absorbed by the body in time. Hope you get
better real soon!

hi I'm new and my lower partials are KILLING me on the left side!
I've had them adjusted twice with no relief. I can't believe I spent
over $2,000 for something that feels like i have a gum full of tacks!
Disgusted and angry,

Hi Martin
I can tell you that I have had full uppers and lowers for almost 6 weeks and
I know it's going to take me a long time to get use to having them. The
lower doesnt fit very well right now so I found some denture adhesive works
wonders when eating.......dont use too much........the first time I used it I
really had a hard time getting the plate out.....
Every day they seem to feel a little better, but Im sure it takes quite a
while to get used to them.
Maybe some of the longer wearers have some comments that might help both of
us.

Hi all,
I'm new here but thought I'd give my $0.02 on my recent denture
experience.
I had all 26 of my remaining teeth pulled in late March, due to
damage from chemotherapy. Luckily my health insurance covered it, due
to the damage being related to my health problem.
I just got my finished dentures this week! I was deathly afraid of
losing weight while I was toothless, but managed to gain 55 pounds!
Luckily, I had lost a bit of weight while being ill these past 3
years! :-)
I also developed a hell of a strong tongue and pallette while eating
for the past 3-4 months. I'm at the point now that I can eat pretty
much anything, as long as I can cut it up a bit.
I'm just having trouble getting used to the dentures. I was hoping I
could get some advice on how long it should take me to actually be
able to eat something without:
-biting my cheek/tongue?
-popping my lower plate out?
-pushing the food back along the top plate, thereby choking myself?
Thanks!
Martin (hungry)

Hi Carol
I cant answer your questions because I have only had my dentures since last
Monday.
I sure hope I can get used to them. Right now they feel so foreign in my
mouth. And I'm like you...I cant eat a thing. Im not so sure this was a good
idea.

Hi.
I'm a new denture wearer, just 5 days now....I'm
still sore and feel like my mouth is full of marbles....does the
full mouth feeling ever go away? Eating is still almost an
impossibility
for me. I cant seem to learn how to bite anything. Sometimes I wish
I hadnt had this done......I thought as soon as the bad teeth were
gone and the new ones in that I would be as good as new.....but I
can see this is going to be a long process. I dont know if any of
you had brusing after the extractions....but my lower jaw is brusied
on both sides.....i quit taking the pain medication after the first
day because it made me sleeply.....so far I'm still existing but it
isnt good.
Mike
i just got my first soft liner for my temps and i absolutely hate
the way it pushed my teeth down.. i am now showing way too much gum
line.. any advice...

:It could be a sinus infection or something more serious.....I would not put off
seeing a Physician or Dentist!! Go now and get to the root of the problem! As
for pain relief, i use either Vicodin or Percocet, but only till i see the
Dentist. Good luck,DVM
hello, I was in a similar situation about two months ago and now have top and
bottom dentures.
I had an oral surgeon who is also able to sedate his patients just sedate me and
extract my teeth..including a few that had broken off down to roots. I had
stitches that were taken out about two weeks later.
I don't know if it cost more to extract from the gumline..I think it was all the
same...expensive!
good luck to you.

those removed? I suppose they will actually have to cut my gums open
and remove them surgically. Does this cost more than just pulling
teeth, and can you be fitted for dentures afterwards, or is the
healing process longer. I am not looking foward to this. I am only
43 years old. I've been on alot of strong medications for the last 4
years or so, and some of those have accounted for the teeth starting
to break off. I've never had perfect teeth, but within a matter of
months I went from having all my teeth to having half of them broken,
and it's been rapidly downhill since. It's really disgusting because
the ones that are left are so decayed they look worse than having
none at all. Anyway, if anyone has any answers please let me know.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Also, I don't know how to come
up with the money for all of this, any estimation on how much we are
talking about here? Thanks!

ps. allen.. the cost of my upper which was a "premium denture was
around 600 dollars.. that included my immediate denture and all my
relines. i thinks a full set of "custom dentures" which would be
medium quality was about the same price.. economy full set was about
$200.00-300.00. hope that helps

-- hi allen.. i am 31 years old and i got upper dentures last
friday.. 7 days ago .. i had 12 upper teeth pulled.. i had no
insurance so i paid cash.. the price for that was 12 teeth @55
dollars per tooth.. i take that back .. i had 10 teeth @ $55 and
2@$90 because they were a little more difficult. i hope that helps.
as far as putting plates right in, if your not worried about the
looks of it, i would highly recommend waiting until you heal..
getting that many teeth pulled at once is tramatic for the gums. your
gums will shrink over that time which makes the plates loose which in
turns causes in the very least inconvience. and a little soreness.
other people may give you different advice but from my experience
thats how i feel about it. i hope i helped a little.. good luck.

Since there is no apparent fever, you might also be experiencing an
allergic reaction to something. With your symptoms, you should not be
waiting around for an appointment but should see someone right now.
Good luck.
