I am going on 30 and have had a full upper denture now for the past
couple of years. i have never had sinus problems or gum problems
until now, and i am scared half to death. Hopefully one of you all
can give me some insight to this problem i am having.
I know i have a fever, but it doesnt register on the themometer, my
face is red and sort of swollen, not bad though. The pressure is
about to kill me. around my eyes (staying bloodshot) and nose area.
My gums are irritated, and my dentures that used to fit good, don't
anymore. (I have consulted my dentist and have an appointment, i
just wanted to see if anyone else has or had this problem) My
tougne is also raw, this has never happened before. I am scared to
death.
Mom tells me i have a sinus infection, and a bad one at that. I
just wonder if you all have ever expirenced this and what you all
did for pain relief.
ray, did you have this done due to the lower not fitting right?? what are
the implants made of??
is having lower dentures that bad if a person cannot have implants?? i felt
kinda good about the denture thing until i hear of all people going back for
implants...i cannot have any metal in my mouth or anything screwed into my
jawbone so i am quite discouraged...

Hi Ray,
What do you mean it was less painful than "Brite Smile"? What's that?

OK - the first half is DONE! I went in this morning and in a short
time had the four pins placed in my lower jaw!
I go back tomorrow for Doc to check out my progress and see how I am
doing with the placement once all the Novocain wears off fully, then
on the 31st - I get the "caps" place in the denture and they will
be "loaded".
I'll let you know how I am doing then. I had no difficulty what so
ever with the procedure, but I am not able to work today outside my
home office as it is far more uncomfortable having the "teeth" put
in your mouth than it was to have them extracted!
It is still less painful then Brite Smile was however and the pain
is subsiding a little bit with Excedrin and aspirin!
I will be updating the website with photos soon!

Hi everyone,
I am new in this group. My name is Thomas and is 60
yrs old. I am interesting to hear your experienced
about implant teeth. I may have to implant at least
six to seven for upper and below. I don't know if the
implant teeth is useful, where I don't have to keep
take it off everyday and clean it. Please give me any
advices about it.
Thanks, Thomas

Hi.
Sorry to hear that you have these problems.
This sounds like a bad job by the technician who made the dentures.
1. The gum area should not be like you said it should be able to
extend it so that the lip hides the top part of the gum area.
2. That your back teeth do not meet the dentist should have corrected
that the day you got them fitted. At least he/she must do it the next
time you have an appointment. This is standard procedure.
I have not had partials as I had all my teeth removed but the
principal is the same.
Hope you will be all right. There should be no reason for not feeling
good having a partial. Some time to get used to it you must calculate
with.
Kind regards
Jason

I just had my four top front teeth pulled on Thursday and now have a
partial denture. My two biggest problems are:
1)My back teeth are not meeting together, thus, I can not chew. I
have been eating pudding, yogurt and such, waiting for the dentist
office to open Monday morning.
2)One of my main reasons for getting this done was to be able to
smile again. But the "gum" part of the denture between my lip and
nose is so short that if I smile too big I am baring all! Granted, I
was used to hiding bad teeth but I don't want to hide my new smile.
Is it possible to get that part of the denture lengthened a little
so it is not so obvious?
Any advice is appreciated.

Either can do the pulling -- a regular dentist pulled mine (just uppers).

My gum healed in a few weeks.

My dentist pulled the sides first and left the front teeth in until my gums
healed, then he pulled the front teeth and put the denture in. That worked well
for me.

In my area, an upper denture costs about $800.

I recommend that you talk with 2 or 3 dentists before you decide anything.

I have 10 teeth left on top and 11 teeth on the bottom. Do these teeth normally get pulled all at once?
Whom does one see to do this, a dentist or an oral surgeon?
How long does it normally take for one's mouth to fully heal from getting all of one's teeth pulled? Does the fact I am a cigarette smoker matter here, and if so, how much?
I am thinking of "going toothless" for three months or so, and then getting full plates fitted. Is this a good idea vs. having plates put in the same day that one's teeth are

always present.
I would like to know if all upper dentures cover the entire roof

serious gagging problems?

beechtree66 had some excellent advise. About food, for the first few days I
suggest you drink vegitable juice thru a straw, mashed bananas, apple sauce,
grits with butter. After a few days, if you want meat, I suggest cooked ground
beef broken up so you don't have to chew much. Good luck.

Your dentist should prescribe an antibiotic for you. As for eating,
you must keep your nutrition level up to heal properly. Get products
like ensure and yogurt (smooth), soups and ice cream. Also get some
hard candy to have close at hand to help you cope with the excess
saliva having a new denture in your mouth will cause. Be sure to
write down specific questions for the dentist and ask them before
you under any form of anesthesia, your nerves will be on edge and
you may not understand what he tells you so write the answers down
or better yet, if you are taking a spouse or other companion- have
them keep track of the answers. Just getting numbed should not be
that bad- get bags of frozen peas to use as ice packs- they conform
to the face very well and are reusable.
Best of luck and feel free to stop in and ask questions-

I have added the pictures of my front six teeth to the New Pics!
page at the very bottom of that page. These are the actual teeth
extracted from my head. This really gives you the full understanding
of how interesting extractions can be and the size of your whole
tooth!

After 50+/- years of horrible, fragile teeth, my dentist has agreed
to take most of them out. He recommended implants for the bottom -
they sink a couple of posts and the entire lower denture is hooked
on these things. You get them taken out every six months for
cleaning etc. The top plate - he wants to leave a few teeth in,
crown and root canal them - and put in a flapper. What do you guys
think? This whole procedure is going to cost a serious chunk of
change AFTER insurance.

i know nothing about dentures, but if your getting fillings, please go to a
biocompatible dentist...one that doesnt use mercury and who tests to see
what materials are best suited to your body....maybe you already know this
but just in case...otherwise a new set of problems occur...also if you
really like to research, look at cavitations...

This is my first time on this site. I am 42 and will be getting
dentures in the next few weeks. I need full dentures at the top and
the dentist is advising me to get a partial on the bottom (leaving
four or five teeth in). All those left in he has to fill. Is it
really worth it to leave any teeth in??? This is my main question.
In addition, I have lupus as well as a muscle disease. The
autoimmune problem is probably the cause of my dental problems.
Does anyone here have lupus or ms and are also contending with
dentures? I've never even seen a set of dentures before so I have
no clue as to what I am in for. Thank you!!!
Hi everyone, a day late and a dollar short, my denture website is
updated with some new pictures. They are on the navigation drop down
menu and the most updated page is the "New Pics!" page.
Feel free to browse around, I show how I removed the pallet plate
from the upper and pics of the new Hard Relines.
I am working on creating a FAQ page, but feel free to contact me if
you have any questions of your own. Since I wear my teeth all the
time except for cleaning them, don't ask me any fetish type
questions or anything of a sexual nature (to date no one has and I
appreciate that!).
Best wishes,

è What's the best way to get it out? It's really annoying

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I bought a few inexpensive soft bristle toothbrushes. I find that using some warm water and the soft brushes will get most of the goop out fairly easily. The bristles catch on the remaining adhesive and does a good job of clean up.
Hello,
I've had a full upper for about a month now (still have my lower
teeth). I had an immediate put in and am generally okay with the
results. My dentist has been patient with my whining and has
slightly modified the denture as hot spots show up.
However, as my gums heal and the swelling subsides, the plate has
become somewhat loose. I'm still in the comfort-liner stage, but my
dentist said it was okay to use Super Poligrip. I put 3 spots on
each morning and that seems to hold the denture pretty well.
So here's my silly question:
When I remove the denture, I've got this stickey, gooey stuff stuck
to the roof of my mouth (yugh..gagh!!). What's the best way to get
it out? It's really annoying and I'm currently using a wet wash
cloth to scrape and scrape until I get it all.
Thanks for any advice in advance.
Neil
Hey everyone, the website I set up at:
www.vdo1.us/denture
is going through some updating. I don't have the new pictures up
yet - have to edit them and make them nice and all that first.
But I wanted to drop a line to you and let you know that I will be
getting that all fixed up in the month of January.
When I had my teeth extracted, I kept the front six teeth on the
top. I will be taking pictures of those and putting that on the
website shortly as well... for those wondering about their teeth -
what you see of the front six uppers is about one third of the total
length! Those things are BIG! The front lowers are the same in the
other direction. I did not keep any of the lower teeth...
I did make an adjustment to my uppers. Feel free to browse the site
now - I did update a few notes on it and will be getting pictures
and additional text data on the site very very soon now!
Best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year!
