i am a real newbie . . . i got my dentures (uppers only) just three weeks
ago. the worse thing that happened to me was a front tooth fell out. the
three people that know (my kids, boss, family members don't know) said they
never
heard of it. my dentist said it shouldn't have happened and glued it back
in.
i've let my husband see me without them but i do sleep with them in. to me
it's more comfortable for my jaws to have them in . . .. it's just better for
me.
as far as pain, the only discomfort i had was from the shots which was
minimal. i went to the dentist, had my upper teeth pulled, dentures put in and
back to work. i just had to be sure my teeth didn't show any blood but i
really didn't bleed. it was just the saliva with a pink tint. one person
asked
about my mouth and i said i had just been to the dentist and that was it.
emotionally i was ready. i had more cards filled up from my dentist than
anyone else since i was a child. i always took care of my teeth but my genes
just didn't pass good teeth on to me. i had every tooth in my mouth capped or
bridges. (my bottoms are mine but all caps and bridges too but they seem
stable at this time.) i got tired of my caps falling off because the tooth was
rotting away underneath. i always wanted my picture taken from one side or
sit in meetings at work with people seeing one side of me that had teeth
because i had no teeth on my right side which you could see when i smiled. so
now, i feel like smiling all the time. i really do.
like i said only 3 people beside my dentist know i have the upper dentures.
i thought my 8 year old grandson would be the first to notice because he
would want to help "glue" my caps back in when they fell out. but he's been
here 3 times since and hasn't noticed. they look so real. i told my dentist i
didn't want white white teeth or "horse" teeth and i think he did a great job
to achieve a natural look.
hope my experience will be helpful to encourage you to go for "gold".
