Got my dentures Tuesday, after repeated fittings and adjustments of
the forms. I love them! However, I'm wondering if the following is
normal, and will just take time to get over, or if I need to go back
in, or what.

The bottom teeth about kill me when I first put them in. It has been a
cumulative pain, each day gets worse. This is day 6, and I almost
didn't leave them in this morning, they hurt so much. There is a great
deal of pressure on the inside right, where the dentures form around
the bone, and the whole bottom-front hits right where the gums meet
the flesh, which is quite raw. Took a look at the inside part this
morn with a mirror, and that area is a deep red, almost like a bruise.

However, after half an hour or so, the pain goes down to more of a
mild discomfort level of pressure, rather than the sharp pain of first
insertion. After a number of hours, the soreness will begin to
increase again, and my limit for being able to leave them in so far is
about 12 hours, before the pain is really, unbearably sharp again.
Personally, I think that's a pretty good amount of time for my first
week, but have no real point of reference for my judgement.

Eating is out so far. I can't get my tongue around the teeth to do
the "quick clean" even, the food just covers my teeth and gums, looks
disgusting, and the mass of food in my upper gum/cheek area feels
horrible. Eating also renders my adhesive useless, and the choppers
start moving around. Is that going to be a matter of practice? I
literally cannot get my tongue up there to swipe (sheesh, I hope I'm
not being too graphic or offensive, here!). Are my teeth too big,
or...?? I tried to eat a banana, and ended up taking the teeth out
(the adhesive really hurt, as it ripped from my gums- Ouch!) to clean
them- could not even do the most basic removal of food from the tooth
line, and trying to rinse with water just crammed a bunch of stuff
under the plates. Is this normal? Again, is this just a "practice"
thing? If so, I need to figure out a way to deal with the one raw
area, since my tongue also scrapes on that area, and has cuts along
the bottom now.

Is my trouble with the bottoms a matter of my gums "hardening up",
like a callous sorth of thing? The tops feel fine, just a bit of
pressure upon first inserting them, and that's it. However, I was told
I have about 1/3 less bone in my top, so will slways need to use some
sort of adhesive. Am using adhesive on the bottoms, too, since that
prevents the minute shifting that **really** hurts.

I will not be able to see my dentist at least until Thursday, and I
don't know if I can even do it then. The prospect of a full week of
this, especially if the pain is going to continue getting worse each
day, is not one I'm looking forward to. Frankly, if the pain is any
worse tomorow, I may truly not put them in. ACK! A horrible thought! <G>

Perhaps I shouldn't be complaining so much. I look and feel a **lot**
better in so many ways, and can smile, laugh, and speak, without
scaring little kids or having folk do the slightly embarrassed
reaction. I can't even put words to how much I love that aspect, alone!
