Hiya Sherry ! Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm one year post
extractions and doing great. I'll give you my opinion to your questions.

>>1. WHAT KIND OF ADHESIVE IS BEST IN YOUR EXPERIENCE?

I hate Polygrip for 2 reasons. First, the rectangular nozzle allows too much
goop to come out, resulting in wasting too much and the tube doesn't last as
long (wonder if that's planned or not?). I've also noticed that it's on the
slimy side. I use Fixodent...the tube opening is smaller and the goop itself
seems to be a little 'drier' than Fixodent. After some experimentation you'll
learn where to place it on the denture and how much to use to get the fit you
want. If you do have residue after removing them, try using some warm water
and a soft bristle toothbrush. The hot water will dissolve the goop, along
with the scraping action of the brush.

>>2. WILL I EVER ENJOY EATING AGAIN, LIKE BEFORE I GOT DENTURES?

I can eat everything I did before I got them, but some things I eat
differently. Smaller bites, cutting up some items. I can do ribs, corn on the
cob,
burgers, pizza, peanuts. It's just a matter of trying.

>>3. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LEARN TO SPEAK PROPERLY AGAIN?

For me, I was back to normal speech within a week or so, once the swellings
went down and I got the hang of the goop. I had a tendancy to whistle when I
said words with 's' but that went away.

>>4. ARE DENTURE-WEARERS DESTINED TO HAVE SORE SPOTS FOREVER, OR IS >>IT
POSSIBLE FOR THE DENTURES TO BE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE?

My dentures are very comfy. The only time I get sore spots now is when I've
been doing some heavy duty chewing, like with a Subway sandwich. I can
honestly say I don't even notice I'm wearing them.

>>5. ON AVERAGE, HOW LONG DOES A SET OF DENTURES LAST?

I'm on my first set of immediates and have been lucky to not need relines.
By taking care of them and regular visits to your dentist, the two of you will
be able to determine when a new set is necessary.

>>6. CAN ACRYLIC DENTURES BREAK IF DROPPED?

You bet. They're basically plastic. They can break or crack from contact
with a hard surface. I treat them the same way I treat my contact lenses...with
a lot of care.

Congrats on taking the big step and start your trip to a wonderful smile. A
lot of it is mental and you have to focus on how much better your emotional
life will be. I don't regret the trip at all.

Pat
