Hi all. New here, too.
I'm 40 years old, fyi.
This experience has been a lot tougher than I anticipated. Had my
teeth recently removed in three stages: left side uppers &
lowers, right side uppers & lowers, then what was left in front - six
on top, four on bottom. Full dentures were put in IMMEDIATELY
following the extractions. Like a good little patient, I did what I
was told - took a painkiller before my mouth even thawed out, used
ice packs, etc. After the numbness went away, the pain was so
intense that I sat there and cried for two straight hours, and then
removed the dentures. Went in two days later for a re-alignment,
which helped a LOT - but it's still too painful to wear them most of
the time. I've decided to wait until I get the sutures removed next
week and will then keep them in faithfully, even if it is still
painful.
So here are my questions (to be answered by denture veterans, please.)
1. WHAT KIND OF ADHESIVE IS BEST IN YOUR EXPERIENCE?
(So far, I really HATE Poligrip. It works well to keep the dentures
secure - but how the blinkety-blank do you get it out of your mouth
after removing the appliances? It feels like slimy glue. I end up
spending 20 minutes actually scraping it off the roof of my mouth
with a fingernail! Any advice?)
2. WILL I EVER ENJOY EATING AGAIN, LIKE BEFORE I GOT DENTURES?
3. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO LEARN TO SPEAK PROPERLY AGAIN?
4. ARE DENTURE-WEARERS DESTINED TO HAVE SORE SPOTS FOREVER, OR IS IT
POSSIBLE FOR THE DENTURES TO BE TOTALLY COMFORTABLE?
5. ON AVERAGE, HOW LONG DOES A SET OF DENTURES LAST?
6. CAN ACRYLIC DENTURES BREAK IF DROPPED?
Thanks in advance, everyone. I appreciate any input/advice.
