A bit of a story from a new group member

Hi all,

I'm new here but thought I'd give my $0.02 on my recent denture
experience.

I had all 26 of my remaining teeth pulled in late March, due to
damage from chemotherapy. Luckily my health insurance covered it, due
to the damage being related to my health problem.

I just got my finished dentures this week! I was deathly afraid of
losing weight while I was toothless, but managed to gain 55 pounds!
Luckily, I had lost a bit of weight while being ill these past 3
years! :-)

I also developed a hell of a strong tongue and pallette while eating
for the past 3-4 months. I'm at the point now that I can eat pretty
much anything, as long as I can cut it up a bit.

I'm just having trouble getting used to the dentures. I was hoping I
could get some advice on how long it should take me to actually be
able to eat something without:

-biting my cheek/tongue?
-popping my lower plate out?
-pushing the food back along the top plate, thereby choking myself?

Thanks!
Martin (hungry)
