Hello, Pam (and Karen) are abcolutely correct, ingestion of zinc can cause
neuropathy . . . which is never a minor issue. It affects different people in
different ways, but in addition to the classic tingling, pain, and numbness in
one's extremeties, denture cream-related neuropathy has also resulted in some
cognitive symptoms. These are very serious medical issues that must be discussed
with your doctor, if you think you may be experiencing them.
As many of you know, I created a Yahoo group dealing with these issues
specifically, there is a study abstract posted in that group dealing with
neuropathy resulting from denture cream use. You might find that study abstract
interesting.
Probably the most important thing to remember is that this is an emerging area
of research, so new studies are expected to be produced in the next several
years that should shed even more light on these problems. Of course, the next
question is what the denture cream manufacturers knew about this problem and for
how long. . since they have been quietly settling cases thus far, those
questions have not yet begun to be answered. But soon . . .
