Anne,
Welcome to the group. It sounds like your dentist is taking the time to make a
quality set of dentures for you. I would advise you to take the time to try to
learn to wear them without adhesives if at all possible. Make sure you keep
going back for adjustments and relines to keep them fitting properly. The
dentist is the one who can judge the fit the best. Adhesives can be helpful for
cushioning sore gums. I do not use any on a day to day basis but if I am in a
stressful situation I sometimes use some fixodent powder to secure my lower
teeth. Since you are getting a partial on the bottom it should be fairly secure
with the clasps. The upper usually produces its own suction against your palate
and will probably be very stable. It is important to train your mouth muscles
and tongue to keep the dentures in place.
As far as cleaners- I do soak mine in efferdent over night and brush them with a
small amount of dish soap every day and that has kept them clean.
By the way, dental issues do not pay attention to age. I got my dentures at 35!
If I can help please ask.
Sandy
