Hi everyone,
I am so happy I found this group today! I've been asking other groups
for some advice, that have nothing to do with dentures, and of course
they tried, but had no answers.
I went to my dentist this week and got a full set of xrays, exam,
etc. I have had a bridge in the upper front of my mouth for the last
25 yrs ( I'm 49). It's gotten it's use and now I have to make the
decision of dentures or a "precision partial". The partial would
involve root canaling and capping a few other teeth besides. I'd have
2 teeth that would have to be pulled.
The dentist also wants to do the work for my bottom teeth. He'd make
another "precision partial" and root canal and cap a few teeth,
besides extracting a few broken teeth...All for $16,000!!!
I cried when I heard the price:(( There is no way I can afford that,
even if I could get a loan. My 80yr old mom has said she'd help, but
that's wayyyy beyond her means as well...
So, I may have to go the denture route, but I'd only get an upper one
since I am terrified of dentists in the first place and looseing all
my teeth.
I have a few questions I need some answers to. One of my concerns is
my boyfriend. I don't think I could ever take my denture out in front
of him. While he's understanding and supportive, it's me that has the
problem. Can we have intimate relations such as kissing & oral sex
with a denture in place? I hope I'm not being too personal, but it's
a great concern to me. I love my boyfriend dearly, and his pleasure
as well as my own are important.
Also, how long did it take for you to get used to having dentures?
Has anyone undergone "conscious sedation" at the dentist? I am a big
woman and the dentists will not put me to sleep, but that's an
alternative for me.
Right now I am freaking out about any dental work, but loosing my
teeth has me a complete mess..help please!
The bridge I currently have in my mouth is loose, and fell out a few
weeks ago..I have to do something SOON.
Thank you to everyone and again, I am happy to have found this group.
Always,
Elise**
