I was feeling a little sad about missing the Southeast Women's Herbal
Conference this year. I went the past two years and was planning on
going again. However, with the price of gas these days, it seems
prohibitively expensive to drive to North Carolina and pay for the
conference, food, childcare, lodging, etc. It especially seems
wasteful when you think of the resources used to transport people from
all over the country. So, I had an idea...
The Northeast, Southeast, and West have plenty of Women's Herbal
Conferences. The Midwest is so great, why don't we have one? The
Dandelion Health Collective could help put it on. And since we're
putting it on, we could do it however we wanted to. We could make it
more inclusive by making it open to all genders. Also, I was thinking
maybe it could be an Earth Healers conference. That way it could
include all kinds of healing: physical, spiritual, energy, sound,
gardening/permaculture, etc. It seems like we have so many wonderful
local resources for this. A friend has said that we may be able to
use the United Plant Savers Sanctuary land outside of Athens for the
conference
(http://www.unitedplantsavers.org/UpS_Botanical_Sanctuary.html),
tentatively next autumn.
What do you think? Are you up for a little community education while
touting what the Midwest has to offer and having a lot of fun? This
will take plenty of planning, so we could use the talents of everyone.
Please respond with your thoughts. This could be a super duper
fantastic opportunity; let's get excited!
