Hello and WELCOME to DSI (Dietary & Supplement Intervention in Autism & Pervasive Developmental Disorder)!
This group is about helping children and adults who have autism or pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). We will discuss dietary interventions including (but not limited to): gluten-free, casein-free, soy-free, egg-free (and egg yolk-free), low phenols, low salicylates, low amines, and low sugar. In addition, we will discuss the use of the Feingold Diet (www.feingold.org), Dr. Mercola's No-Grain Diet (www.mercola.com) and the Special Carbohydrate Diet (www.BreakingTheViciousCycle.info); this will include modified versions of SCD, such as dairy-free, nut-free, honey-free, and low phenol/salicylate/amine SCD. A combination of various diets, such as dairy-free SCD incorporating Feingold foods that work for your child/family will be discussed.
The use of digestive enzymes and nutritional supplements, such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, DMG/TMG, cod liver oil, evening primrose oil, etc., will be discussed. Some families and researchers are reporting exciting results using the bioactive forms of vitamins, such as P5P (B6), folinic acid (folic acid), and pantethine (panothetic acid or B5).
We will discuss what works for our kids, our families, and ourselves and what doesn't. No member will pressure any other member to be 100% compliant to any specific diet. The same things don't work for everyone: the autistic spectrum is wide and varied, and everyone's individual biochemistry is somewhat different.
We will all benefit and learn from each other. The goal is to help our kids and our families have happier, healthier lives. I look forward to our discussions.
Sincerely,
List Owner/Group Moderator
