Professor William Christopher Epler (Bill) 'Proteus' is a Ph.D. Mathematician - Consciousness Frontiers Person - who teaches at the University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College (CNM).  He is on the verge of doing some math research, having to do with something called Bayesian* Probability. *["It directly relates to the epistemological distinction between British Empiricism and Continental Idealism/Rationality (mostly Kant) - a nice thing to show people how close is the relation of certain areas of mathematics to the history of western philosophy."]

As he describes on his most courageous, highly charged political and beyond 'blogspot' The Liberation of Realism 

"The reality/thought distinction lies at the precise center of human existence. The problem is that thought (including religious and scientific thought) keeps abstracting theoretical realities "behind the scenes" of raw living, but ultimate realness is where we already are. Spontaneous, immediacy is itself reality process and the sublime self-activity of that which is already the case forever transcends the thinking about point of view. Thus, mystery grounded ness is all . . ."

Professor Epler wrote about his statement above "It pretty much says everything and most of my essays are variations of those themes.  It is self evident to me that ultimate realness is where we already are and that "time and space" are merely conceptual human projections into that which is already the case.  An ancient Chinese word for nature is tzu-jan which means: "An essential characteristic that governs the Tao is spontaneity (tzu-jan), the what-is-so-of-itself, the self-so, the unconditioned."" hence immedicying is the "of-itself" doing of untheoretical realness."  If YOU are thinking "Huh? - hold on, and proceed.

These things can be said like a bouquet of intuitions, which harmonize into a greater whole. Most of my essays are grounded in these intuitions.  Many years ago, this life ceased to be personality grounded, and that has been wonderfully spiritually liberating. 

Said differently, the dreamer isn't what finally "wakes up", but rather the dreamer is what something more real wakes up from. The more real is all."

In Professor Epler's words; (1.)  I stopped one year short of finishing a PhD in Philosophy since I wanted to write my dissertation on Alan Watts and my committee freaked out, so I decided academic philosophy was a contradiction of terms and went into math.  I also started that Ph.D. from scratch in my late 30's, and not many people dare to that.

(2.) I spent several years in my youth passionately playing the piano (sometimes practicing 10 hours a day).  I had a shot at 2 world-class teachers, but life intervened and my Rachmaninoff ambitions didn't come to pass.

(3.) I used to do lots of Kundalini Yoga, but the Sikhs left Albuquerque, and I sort of ran out of yoga centers.

(4.) I am married with 2 adorable daughters whom I love, as I tell them, more than the sky.

(5.) I started to write around 10 years ago and have manuscripts to burn of plays, poetry, essays, partial novels, and (as you know) quantities of op-eds.  I have the material for several diverse books and I may compile it and see about publishing. As you can see, I have a least at book of material on my blog (including a play, poetry, and lots of out of the box stories).  I think you would enjoy my short stories if you find time to read some, e.g., the caR, the staR, the birD, bonE, and the rooM, as a few suggestions.

(6.) I have several mathematical conjectures I may do some hard-core research into.  I particularly like Bayesian probability which is a subject I could say some interesting things about since the alternative is "frequentist' probability which is grounded in British Empiricism, whereas Bayesian probability is related to continental Rationalism, especially Kant.  Many people don't know about these mathematical/philosophical connections, but they certainly exist. "A liberal American, PhD mathematician, bipedal Earthling."
