I can personally attest to the insidious nature of Ritalin...it very
nearly destroyed me. I have had narcolepsy/cataplexy for approx. 15
years & until a few years ago the only and most popular means of
treating the narcolepsy (falling asleep uncontrollably) was
Ritalin. It is my firm and experienced belief that Ritalin should
bear a skull and crossbones on the label. In short, I became what I
realize now as...psychotic. I became mean, nasty and violent. It
was only by sheer strength of character and intellect that I did not
succumb to the most violent of my feelings and land in jail or
worse. I was then referred by a Dr. to a new drug that is not a
controlled substance as is Ritalin called Provigil although I slowly
got much better I decided to forgo the Provigil as well and now
simply nap when I must, sometimes once a day sometimes several times
a day. I, unfortunately, must still take Paxil (an anti-depressant)
for my Cataplexy (loss of muscle tone due to strong emotion a
condition related to and caused by the narcolepsy) without it I'd be
completely non-functional. However, the difference since I've been
off the Ritalin is like night and day. So if anyone reading this
knows ANYONE on Ritalin or considering that course of
treatment...DON'T.

PARENTS DON'T LET YOUR CHILDREN, FRIENDS, FAMILY, ANYONE TAKE
RITALIN!!!!!!!

I am not surprised by Sorcha's posting, sickened yes, but not
surprised in the least. It is my firm belief that medication should
be taken only when absolutely necessary and we should always try to
find a means through good old mother nature as our first line of
defense (thus my interest in Crocodillin). Case in
point...Echinacea...there have been many articles published by the
FDA, pharma's, medical associations trying to dismiss the
effectiveness of echinacea. I, however, can personally attest to
its efficacy. The one catch is that you must start treatment with
the echinacea at the first signs of illness ie. the telltale tickle
in the throat. It should not be taken for more than 2 weeks at a
time as the body adjusts to continued use thereby eliminating its
efficacy.
