Hi Beth,
Initially you are not supposed to eat grains other than wild rice but oat
bran is so high in fiber it would probably be fine. Only lemon and lime are
allowed for the first few weeks, then more fruit is added. Dr. Weil is not
a fan of saturated fats. Unfortunately he does not understand and he just
spews typical rhetoric about it without doing any research. The fatty acids
in coconut oil are of a medium chain length - these are not typically stored
as fat but I have found that people react very differently to fats.
For probably thousands of years, native people have lived on the coconut
without killing over of heart disease. It would be nice if Dr Weil would
ask himself why that might be.
I don't see this forum as active at all. At one point the author Cherie
Calbom would answer people but I have not seen anything for quite some time.
All the best to you,
Alana

If you are gaining weight with coconut oil, I would not use it personally.
I know that it does not work for everyone in the same way. I have put a few
of my clients on it for various reasons and some lose weight right away
while others after some time and still others not at all. As long as you
feel good and are losing weight with what you are doing, don't change it.
If you want the health benefit, try just a tsp each day. That will still
have good effect.
************************************************************
Alana....Thank you for your input...it seems like the weight has now come
off! I will keep an eye on the scale and see if I need to cut it back or
not...
I do not have the book so do not know what the diet actually is...although I
looked thru the book at the bookstore... but didn't find this group...until
after I left the store! Now I need to go back and get the book!
It does sound like on this diet you can not eat fruits...what about oat
bran?
I was looking over Dr Weils site and he does not recommend vco....He is a dr
that I respect and just wonder why he doesn't recommend it....
I really get a bit confused at all the conflicting reports on what to eat
and what not to eat....
I have gone back and read all the posts from this group....I would love to
see an update from those that started on the diet and hear where they are at
in their weight loss and how they feel.....

Hi I just started using VCO last week. I had read about it a yr or so
ago but truthfully have been afraid of it. Since March 1st I have lost
35lbs counting calories...1000 a day of healthy foods...no VCO...but I
have about 30 more to go and I want to do this very healthy...so
thought adding in VCO would be a good choice....I usually have oat bran
for breakfast with ground flax seed 1/2 of organic banana and 1/2 ounce
of almonds..I started adding 1 TBS of coconut oil into that...and
yesterday used VCO to stir fry chicken in..Well today after not quite a
week I weighed and was up 2 lbs!!! I am not eating anymore than 2 TBS
of VCO a day and probably more like 1 TBS....This is making me want to
STOP taking the VCO!!! I can not regain the weight I worked so hard to
lose!! Any input would be great! I did make a smoothie this morning and
used kefir with coconut milk and some organiic fruit and flax seed..it
was so good..I never have smoothies but this was a nice change! Thank
you Beth

In my first 21 days on the Coconut Diet I lost the last 5 pounds that I
have been trying to lose for years. Plus I feel great.
I'm now doing the Bowel Cleanse program (about 2 weeks into it) and I
am seeing excellent results. I highly recommend that everyone do the
cleanses to facilitate weight loss and help with energy.
I use about 1 Tablespoon of bentonite clay & 1 tablespoon of psyllium
husks in about 8 oz. of vegetable juice or water. Eat as much raw food
as possible, esp. lots and lots of greens. Blender drinks are great
too---my favorite is with spinach, cucumber, avocado, coconut oil, and
lime juice with a bit of stevia. It's also great with some fresh
coconut milk and about 4 oz. of carrot juice.
Hi everyone,
I have actually been a member of the group for a while now, but have not
gotten into it. Now, I am interested in trying the Coconut Diet. But I
would like some feedback from anyone out there.
I am 39 years old
Male
6'2" tall
300 lbs
Diabetic type 2
High Blood Pressure
Not active, but not a couch potatoe either
Is there anyone out there under a similar situation that is doing the
diet or has tried the diet and what results did they have?
how long do I have to do it before I start seeing any results?
What are some of the side effects of it?
Is there like a maximum time restraint or limit of which I must not do
the diet? Like for example, don't do the diet for longer than . . .
Any and all suggestions and advise will be appretiated.
Jesse
I'm at the point where I'm ready to start the cleanses, however, I
can't seem to find in the book the proportions for the psyllium and
betonite clay in the fiber shake. Does anyone know how much of each
I'm supposed to add to 8 ounces of water?
Hi Rebecca,
Nice to meet you via cyber-space. I will take a look at the poll.
Thanks,
Alana

Just to get to know the group, I've posted a poll in the poll section.

Thanks Cherie. It feels like I drank a huge cup of coffee! I called Dr.
Mary Enig about it and talked with her – I am going to cut it down to just
about ½ TB for breakfast and maybe the same for lunch. Don’t want to slow
the effects but racing that hard is not always a comfortable feeling – it
feels like adrenaline pouring through my system
Glad you have heard about this from others! Amazing oil!
All the best,
Alana

Hello Alana,
I've heard from a number of people who have experienced a surge in energy
like you are describing when on The Coconut Diet. Coconut oil burns
quickly and
this can cause the metabolism to speed up. Congratulations on your weight
loss!

Hello to All,
I have a question about the coconut oil. I have been using it for over a
month now, pretty much daily other than when I was traveling for 5 days. I
notice that whenever I use it, I speed up incredibly - like I am on speed or
something. I never did speed as a drug but this is what it feels like to
me. Is this normal? Is it OK? It is as though I drank a cup of coffee! I
am very sensitive to caffeine and this is what it feels like. My heart rate
is up for several hours. I think it is helping me to shed excess weight
where nothing worked before. I am just curious if anyone thinks this is OK
and safe.
Thanks so much,
Alana

Yes, I understand. If you get a chance, check Whole Foods. They usually
have great young coconuts.
Best of luck!

Hi Beverly,
Do you live anywhere near a Whole Foods Market? They often have young
coconuts. You may also be able to order them online. Have you tried to
search?
Best,
Alana

Hi Cherie,
I think they might. It's one of the side affects, and Dr. Atkins advised
that it might be harder to lose while on them. Since I have chronic
clinical depression, I'm hesitant to come off of them just yet. My whole
world is nothing but dark and bleak when I'm not on the meds. I'll just
have to try to do my best with them. I'm hoping that, with improved
health and a bolstered immune system, eventually I'll be able to come
off of them.
Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll monitor how I feel once I start
whole hog on this.
Do you have any ideas where I might find fresh, young coconuts, or at
least pesticide free coconuts? I love just eating the meat. I've gotten
the coconut oil and coconut cream that Dr. Mercola sells, and I could
get ground coconut from the health food store, but I didn't know if it
might be more economical to make stuff from the coconut itself.
Warmest regards,
Beverly (aka. ArielDragonfly)

Hello,
Do you think the depression meds might be preventing the weight loss?
It's possible that the coconut diet may help you regarding this aspect of
your health. Keep monitor on your emotions. It may be possible on this diet
to cut back on the medication, which may help your weight loss. Check in with
your doctor if you sense that you're experiencing emotional
changes/improvements.
Best of health,
Cherie

Hi All,
I am brand new to the group. I have really been struggling with my
weight for the last several years. Since becoming menopausal, the
weight just does not come off, so I'm excited about the prospects of
this diet. I'm also on depression meds, and I'm keeping my fingers
crossed that I will still be able to lose. I did Atkins a couple
years ago, and it took me 5 months to lose 15 lbs., even though I
stuck to it religiously. I didn't exercise, so that was a
contributing factor to the slow loss, I expect.
I have started cooking with EVCO, and am almost finished reading the
book. I adore coconut, so this should be easier than most diets. I'm
also planning on doing a cleanse.
My question is, does anyone have a source (mail-order or otherwise)
for fresh, young coconuts? I would love to be able to incorporate
them into the diet, but I live in Massachusetts, and the only thing
I can find are the old ones in the grocery stores.
Thanks!
Thanks so much for your encouragement!
Alana

I think your weight will start to fall off very very soon so it is
worth the first 3 weeks.
Goodluck and stay in touch.

Hi Judy,
I am very new to the group and was wondering if you would share with
me what liver gallbladder cleanse you did that allowed things to
move more quickly for you. The one in this book recommends lemon
juice and other sour foods but they cause me bad indigestion.
Thanks,
Alana

Hello
I am new to the group - I read the book and got some virgin coconut
oil. I am excited to be doing this. I have been following phase one
for one week but have not seen any significant weight loss (maybe 1/2
pound, if that). I do not feel like I am toxic at all - and am
wondering if others have had a similar experience. I need to lose
about 20 pounds. My skin feels so much softer and I do feel maybe
just a wee bit smaller. I eat 3 TBS of the oil daily with my meals.
I would greatly appreciate any encouragement to keep going. It is not
a difficult plan to follow however I am feeling a little discouraged.
Thanks so much to you all and I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Alana
I think my question to you would be what else are you eating with the
coconut oil? I have been using coconut oil, I have type O blood, and I
am loosing weight. Any "diet" will fail, and/or cause you to gain
weight if you do not follow the entire discipline. Cutting corners in
some areas of a "diet," especially the corners that makes our "flesh
scream" will create negative results. Perhaps you are not drinking
enough water to flush your system... you should be drinking 1/2 ounce
per pound every day; therefore, if you weigh 200 pounds you need to
drink almost a gallon of water every day. If you are not already
drinking enough water, you are probably dehydrated, so try drinking 4
ounces of water every hour that you are awake for three days, then at
least 1/2 ounce for every pound that you weigh. Another thought is that
the author of the coconut diet also has a great juice fast that will
get your body on track, perhaps you might consider it if you are having
weight loss issues.
Dear all including Cherie
The Coconut Diet doesnt mention soy milk, tofu, etc.
under forbidden foods - or under permitted foods.
Could you please let me know what you feel about
these.
Also, Splenda is not mentioned. What is your view on
this.
Also, mate tea (from Argentina) seems very healthy to
me. However I havent used it on the diet in case it is
not advisable.
How can I find out about other foods which are neither
on the permitted, nor the forbidden lists?
Thanks
Annie

Hello there!
I would recommend that you cut back on the amount of coconut oil you are
consuming. Use only about 1 Tbsp per day. Stick with primarily lean proteins
and veggies. You may also benefit from a liver cleanse. The liver is the
fat burner of the body. If it is congested or not functioning well. it will
not burn fats well.
Best of health,
Cherie Calbom

Hello all--
I've been consistently gaining a pound a week since I started eating
coconut oil (3-4 tbls/day). I have tried to stick with it but am
growing out of all of my clothes.
I have searched high and low to find possible negative consequences
from EVCO and only find the positive "hype" and weight loss stories. I
did, however, stumble on something last night.
In a book related to good fats and low carb diet I found a statement
that said something like, "If you're not thriving on coconut oil
consumption (from a weight loss perspective) you probably have type O
blood." Does anyone know about this theory?
When I researched it on Google I found all kinds of info on the "eat
for your blood type diet" and how people with type O blood should avoid
coconut. Many authorities, however, feel this diet is hokey. What are
your thoughts?
Cali
I had problems with the coconut oil. I cannot tolerate it well but I
would like to pass my book onto someone interested. Email me at
