Dear  Senator O'Leary,
I  very much appreciate you keeping me informed on Senate No.S1311 “An  Act
Studying  the Health Effects of Toxic Mold”, however the importance of
adequate
notice  prior to such an important  public  hearing  is crucial.
I  have just returned from a two day trip to Pocomoke, Maryland to seek
medical
help  for illness due to massive mold exposure from my "now foreclosed"
home.
I  would like to introduce the work of Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker
(_www.chronicneurotoxins.com_ (http://www.chronicneurotoxins.com/) ).  The following quote
taken from Dr. Shoemakers testimony given before a Congressional hearing  in
Washington, D.C. last September which I attended along with many  victims
including Katrine Stevens and Mary Mulvey-Jacobson from  Massachusetts.
"I  am a Family Practice physician from Pocomoke, Maryland.  Beginning in
1997,  I diagnose and treat patients who are sickened following exposure to
water-damaged  buildings.  We found that their  illnesses were due to
amplified
growth  of indoor resident, toxin-forming organisms, including a small number

of  mold species.  Patients from all  over the United States, as well as
international
patients,  have been referred to me for treatment.   To date, I have
diagnosed
and  treated over 1800 patients with mold illness, including 175 children.
For  those mold illness patients for whom treatment is not too late, we can
make  them whole again.  For those  children with mold illness that impairs
their
ability  to learn, we can restore their ability to progress academically.
For those
patients  whose illness has caused irreversible health effects, including
chronic
fatigue,  neurologic problems and rheumatologic problems, in addition to
respiratory  effects, we must find new approaches to improving their
health."
Dr.  Shoemaker is a profoundly compassionate and brilliant physician that is

willing  to share his knowledge and address the health effects of toxic mold.

I  ask that you explore all avenues available to you including the work of
Dr.  Shoemaker and his newly released book "Mold Warriors" a must read to
properly  understand the magnitude of mold illness.
Last  December public hearings were held by Boston City Councilors Maura
Hennigan  and Chuck Turner along with Joel Segal from Congressman John
Conyers  Jr's (D-MI) office to address the issue of mold in public buildings
and
schools  in Boston.  The hearing was held  at the Boston Teachers Union,
testimonies were given by doctors,  nurses, teachers, and other concerned
organizations  as well as local activists Ginny Lane, Mary Mulvey-Jacobson
and  myself.
I  would appreciate the opportunity to meet with you and others copied to
discuss  the possibility of another public hearing, giving ample notice, so
all
may  be heard.  Working together to  truly understand the myriad of issues
surrounding  this horrific problem.
In  closing, a quote from Dr. Shoemaker " We now have the hard scientific
data
on  causation of illness, showing a direct connection between exposure to
biotoxic
mold  in buildings and subsequent acquisition of illness.  I believe you now
have
the  direct science and rock solid evidence needed to change public  policy."
Thank  you in advance for your consideration.
Most  sincerely,
Nancy  Davis
