Dear Colleagues:
(feel free to write off-list)
Stimulated by a return to interest in topics in law and culture, including domains such as employment, courts, family, medical contexts and hospitals, schools, everyday life situations, and other contexts, a particular discussion list on defamation and discrimination of disabilities is starting up. Persons with disabilities and allies and scholars including University or other professionals and discussants is meant to develop in partnership. Points of view and perspectives of course may and should be diverse.
I am sending this post to you or your list because we are on a list together or in private correspondence concerning how persons with disabilities are described and the outcomes that can follow. Most of us do belong to or moderate more than one discussion list, so in no way is this meant to draw your time or attention from the present discussions, but only to let you know that a related topic which has been up to now in background or in private mail is now going to be available for group discussion.
No legal background is needed, though welcome and case and statutory law will be one topic - often foreground passion on a topic is a great asset in itself and means positive curiosity in the best sense, and stimulating posts and queries. It can also mean those with an interest in proceedings in particular domains can dip into them with comfort while not in a field themselves.
The discussion has not started up formally, but feel free to introduce yourself, which often is very helpful at launch time and a friendly and encouraging start-up. We do ask for some sort of intro or bio even if brief.
