CHAT: [Sidebar] Thoughts on Article re "Coping with Busy Doctors"   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #1909 of 2503 |

Have you seen this article outlining preparation for doctor visits, and have these preparations worked well for you? They will be optimum of course for those with health care provider access, and we must consider what people with disabilities, the poor and the elderly will do to implement the suggestions.  This crisis of access is ever frontal.

I have in mind a few very knowledgable and sharing members of these lists whom I recall do prepare in these or similar ways. Reflecting on their good counsel, I came upon this article just today which outlines some steps in preparing for meeting with a physician.  I personally need to do better on this and not mind when my preparatory materials are set aside, because this can and will happen.  I have carried them with me and had then declined, but this is not to cancel the recommendations; my feeling is that my seeing physicians who gaive me around 12 minutes, in a large medical group, has been the biggest problems.  Too many mutations of symptoms; too many medications to consider; too few minutes available to converse.  I do feel for them because they apparently need to schedule several patients per hour; but with multiple symptoms of cranial neuralgia to report my organiaational efforts have failed me too often, where physicians at times seem affronted by materials brought in.  Some say go to specialists and others say do not listen to others if you want to come here.

The above are personal observations; they do not subtract from the helpful list of preparatory steps one can take.  In my own case, I believe I should take materials (and in my head any research) with me and perhaps leave it for nextime, perhaps to do some pr background good.  When we get to the point that we are hedging discourse dynamics and healthforum politics however - and going home with bad undescribed pain or other function-halting conditions - to wait for another appointment often far later,  however, it does seem like a poor physician patient match. (Another time I would like to discuss some information processing and systems analysis issues we might address but I am busy searching on the Web for resources, any links will be appreciated.

This is a perhaps not subtle (yet sincere and appreciative) "sort of"  request that health care management people here might chime in and educate on this, but they are very busy too.

Above = just my views, and just now; hope to hear how others are doing with their patient/doctor relations in this busy crowded world; extremely concerned that those without some form of insurance do not even make it this far into the maze.  And the copay pinch is not a light one even for the "insured."
