( yes re above note on not judging books by their covers, and also ... )
Hi, this message came back resonating with yours; have a real good evening!
And hi Joe too, whose handshaking message back to you expanding and
exploring the
book-cover metaphor is reproduced here with permission tonight (from post
to the e-list: invisible-disability@yahoogroups.com , URL below).

I think in a way all people are judge like a book by its cover. Some see
a rich man as self centered with no kindness in his heart but there are
many generous rich men. Some people see overweight people and think them
to be lazy, pig like. worthless but most are not . Many overweight
people are generous, loveable, fun loving, and friendly people but the
cover is judged to be unappealing. The young are judged to be lost, the
old judged to be useless, beautiful people self centered only worried
about themselves. Most are not to many judgements on the outside
appearance like an old book with a worn out cover it can't be very good.
Now-- I feel a handicap/disabled person is looked at differently
because we need extra help or accommodations . How many people will not
hold a door open or avoid a person in a wheelchair. How many events are
the disabled not able to attend because there is no way for them to get
there or to be able to attend because of barriers making it very
difficult or impossible to do so. I would have never believed it or
noticed it until my wife became wheelchair bound. I may have been guilty
of not being kind enough to people who are disabled.
The real problem with being disabled/handicap is no one points out to
people with no handicap/disabilities that we are the same but just in
the need of their kindness, patience, and help at times. We are judged
like a book one that is defective , and should stay on the shelf unread.
