Dr. Winfrid Eisenberg
Brooks Memorial Library, Main St. Brattleboro, Vermont
Does Entergy Vermont Yankee put Vermont families at risk every day?
To answer this question Winfrid Eisenberg M.D., a retired pediatrician from Herford, Germany, will be speaking throughout Vermont from February 16 to March 3. He will tell Vermonters about cancer rates among children growing up near nuclear power plants in Germany.
Dr. Eisenberg also has something to say to those who do not live near nuclear power plants. He is an authority on the health consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster, and how it affected children in
Germany, 900 miles from the site of the accident. He has examined and treated children from both Germany and Belarus who either survived the Chernobyl nuclear accident or whose parents were survivors.
Dr. Eisenberg has been a member of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) - in the US the Physicians for Social Responsibility - since 1982 and served on the German IPPNW board from 2003 - 2007. He is very active in the issues of nuclear disarmament, hazards of nuclear energy, and has participated in many public activities to raise the awareness of the dangers of the use of nuclear energy.
Eric Bachman (Barre) and Susan Ritz (Montpelier) both of whom also lived in Germany in 1986 and experienced that fateful fallout will be present at various events of the tour.
