Re: [Chicago-CHADD] Re: Addiction or not?

Here's my thought on Ritalin....I never became "addicted" to it but I could see and feel a drastic difference in myself when it was wearing off and when I was off of it. It was the first medication my psychiatrist tried when I was diagnoised and after one time comming off of a higher dosage, I became so severely depressed and impulsive, I **almost** cut myself and I hated myself for even feeling that way b/c I KNEW that it was not the way to deal with things. I was suicidal and an emotional wreck, but I was smart enough and stable, that I went to the college counseling center and would not leave until I met w/ my counselor b/c I didn't feel safe. A few years before then, I wouldn't have done that. I knew it was the Ritalin.
SO, here are my answers:
1) Do you lose time from work due to ritilan? NO
> 2) Is ritilan making your home life unhappy? Comming off of it, YES, while on it, NO WAY!!!
> 3) Do take ritilan because you are shy with other people? NO
> 4) Is ritilan affecting your reputation? NO
> 5) Have you ever felt remorse after taking ritilan? NO, not specifically ritalin, but any medication for ADHD
> 6) Have you gotten into financial dificulties as a result of your
> ritilan? NO
> 7) Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment
when taking ritilan? NO
> 8) Does ritilan make you careless of your family's welfare? NO
> 9) Has your ambition decreased since taking ritilan? NO, safely increased!
> 10) Do you crave a ritilan at a definite time daily? When on it, yes but not a specific time
> 11) Do you want ritilan the next morning? Mixed feelings...
> 12) Does taking ritilan cause you to have difficulty in sleeping? NO, which may sound crazy but it helped me to sleep if I still had some in my system when I went to bed
> 13) Has your efficiency decreased since taking ritilan? NO, increased BIG TIME!!!
> 14) Is taking ritilan jeopardizing your job or business? NO
> 15) Do you take ritilan to escape from worries or troubles? NO, taking Ritalin or any of the ADHD meds I have taken has helped me to deal with my emotions and issues in a more rational and effective manor.
> 16) Do you take ritilan alone? Not sure what you mean here..but I was taking an anti-depressant(comming off of it) and medications for asthma and allergies
> 17) Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of
your taking ritilan? NO, never
> 18) Has your physician ever treated you for too much ritilan? NO
> 19) Do you take ritilan to build up your self-confidence? NO, but since being on medication treatment for my ADHD, my self-confidence has increased b/c of being able to be productive!
> 20) Have you ever been in a hospital or institution on account of
> ritilan? NO, never!

I hope this helps.....
