Medication for ADD used correctly and under the supervision of a physician is not addicting.
I do find what Bently brought up very interesting. See my answers to the questions below:

I forgot what he called that...
I think "rebound" is the term you were looking for.
Addiction is an interesting dicussion. It is something all ADDers
should be concerned about as many of us feel we have "addictive
personalities". If I'm not mistaken. studies have shown that people
with ADD have a much higher chance of becoming addicts then the
general population. So we all should be concerned about what we are
taking (and doing).
What about changing these classic questions from alcohol to ritalin?
1) Do you lose time from work due to ritilan? Not taking may cause this
2) Is ritilan making your home life unhappy? Not taking may cause this
3) Do take ritilan because you are shy with other people? Helps with self esteem
4) Is ritilan affecting your reputation? Yes, the I forgot, I am late, disorganization reputation is going away or is gone.
5) Have you ever felt remorse after taking ritilan? not at all
6) Have you gotten into financial dificulties as a result of your
ritilan? The only financial difficulty would be if Ididn't have insurance to cover the cost of the medication.
7) Do you turn to lower companions and an inferior environment when
taking ritilan? Actually it helps me do the opposite.
8) Does ritilan make you careless of your family's welfare? Not taking this may cause this
9) Has your ambition decreased since taking ritilan? Not taking this may cause this
10) Do you crave a ritilan at a definite time daily? No craving
11) Do you want ritilan the next morning? Of course as it will help me focus, etc
12) Does taking ritilan cause you to have difficulty in sleeping? Nope
13) Has your efficiency decreased since taking ritilan? It has increased
14) Is taking ritilan jeopardizing your job or business? Not taking this may cause this
15) Do you take ritilan to escape from worries or troubles? Just the worries or troubles of not focusing, etc
16) Do you take ritilan alone?
17) Have you ever had a complete loss of memory as a result of your
taking ritilan? Not taking this may cause this
18) Has your physician ever treated you for too much ritilan? nope
19) Do you take ritilan to build up your self-confidence? The result of taking this helps build your self esteem as the symtoms of not taking it knock in down.
20) Have you ever been in a hospital or institution on account of
ritilan? Not taking this may cause this in a case of not paying attention when driving resulting in an accident.
(The above questions are used by many chemical dependency counselors
in helping clients determine whether they have a problem.)
When I ask these questions with my use of perscription class X
drugs, I feel I am not, in any way, addicted. But we must each ask
these questions for ourselves.
Why I don't get "high" from these narcotics and others do (ritilan
is widely abused) is a issue of brain chemistry that I will leave to
the experts to explain. snorting this type of drug will cause the "high"
But don't forget that medication is only one part of ADHD
treatment. Looking for the magic drug combination that is going to
cure ALL your ADD issues, is a recipe for disaster!
What else are we doing besides medication for our ADHD?
It's interesting to extrapolate the above questions to other drugs,
and activities.
I found out I was "addicted" to TV and the internet. Now should I
treat the symptom (i.e. addiction to TV and the internet) or should
I treat the cause (In my case I feel it to be ADD and a reward
system dysfunction)?
I often sign my posts with:
"When you are "blessed" with ADD
The unintended trip of 1000 sites
begins with a single click" I LOVE THIS QUOTE!!!
Ironic... Isn't it? Funny how we make light out of what causes us
pain.
