About Edward Hallowell, M.D.

Edward (Ned) Hallowell, M.D. is a child and adult psychiatrist and the founder of The Hallowell Center for Cognitive and Emotional Health in Sudbury, Mass. Dr. Hallowell is a graduate of Harvard College, Tulane Medical School and a Harvard Residency Program in Adult and Child Psychiatry. He also has been on the faculty of the Harvard Medical School since 1983.

Dr. Hallowell has authored many books on various psychological topics, including problems with attention, focus, stress and worry. His national bestsellers “Driven to Distraction” and “Answers to Distraction” discuss attention deficit disorder in children and in adults. “When You Worry About The Child You Love” describes the various emotional and learning problems children may have and offers practical tips on how best to deal with them. With Michael Thompson, he co-authored a book of essays on children, families and schools, entitled “Finding the Heart of the Child”. Drawing on his knowledge and expertise from 20 years of private practice, as an instructor at Harvard Medical School, as well as his own life experiences, he has written his most inspiring book, “The Childhood Roots of Adult Happiness”. His most recent book, “Dare to Forgive”, hit the shelves about a month ago. In this book he shows that forgiveness is essential to living a healthy and happy life.

Dr. Hallowell has filmed two videotapes for the Public Broadcasting System (PBS), one about managing worry, the other about the power of connection. These aired on PBS stations around the country in 1999. He also has appeared on such national television shows as 20/20, The Today Show, Dateline, Oprah, Good Morning America and The View.
