It seems we are in the midst of another burst of interest in
starting another adult ADHD support group. We have had these bursts
of interest in the past. We schedule a meeting - and the interested
parties do not show up.
CHADD of Chicago has had an adult support group that met at UIC. We
stopped it because no one was coming. We may restart it again - we
are open to when, where, etc.
We do not need to reinvent the wheel. Getting a support group
going - and keeping it going - is difficult. Donna is trying to get
the one in Highland Park going again. Peter Jaksa has one that
meets downtown. There is a list of Chicago area adult ADHD support
groups at:

Try a group before starting your own. CHADD of Chicago will try to
organize one if there is enough interest. If it is going to be the
same few people, we can just get together on our own as we need to.
There is no point in trying to run a group for people who will not
show up.
Last, but not least, do not expect a support group to be super
convenient to you in terms of location and time. There are enough
alcoholics trying to get help so that there is always a convenient
AA meeting. There are not enough adults with ADHD looking for help
for there to be lots of convenient meetings. If you are serious
about working on your ADHD, expect to devote some time to it - both
in terms of getting to meetings and spending times at meetings.
The next CHADD of Chicago chapter meeting is on Tuesday, March 2.
If you want to form an adult support group under the auspices of
CHADD of Chicago, show up at the chapter meeting and we can set
aside some time to talk about it.
Please note that this message board is for CHADD of Chicago. If you
want to organize a support gorup on your own, please continue the
discussion on the general message board for Chicago area adults with
ADHD:
