I thought I should try to clarify some of the threads that have been
going on here. Jennifer is trying to start a new support group at
Northwestern U - which would be for Northwestern students. She
indicated that she would see if it could be open to the general
public. It any event, CHADD of CHicago is not involved, other than
to wish her luck and giver her any advice or support we can.
The CHADD of Chicago Adult ADHD Support Group is not moving
anywhere. It meets the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at
UIC. If you want to get involved with that group, have some input
into it, etc - show up at a meeting.
This email list is for the CHADD of Chicago group. While we are
happy to help all those with ADHD, we have enough on our hands
trying to run our own group. So please - no more messages about
another ADHD support group at Northwestern U which will not be open
to the general public.
There are six adult ADHD support groups in the Chicago area. You
can see a list of them at:
http://chiaddult.tripod.com/support_groups.htm
I hope one of them is convenient for you. Getting a support group
up and running is difficult. If you need something other than what
is currently available, you probably need to start your own. If
there is a need for a support group in the near north suburbs (there
is one in Highland Park), you might want to contact North Suburban
CHADD and work with them. Contact information is at their web site:
http://www.chaddns.org/index.html
You do not have to work with CHADD to have a support group. Three
of the six Chicago area adult ADHD support groups are affiliated
with CHADD chapters. Three are not. This email list is for the
CHADD of Chicago Adult ADHD Support Group. There is another Yahoo
group for general CHicago area adult ADHD issues. The discussion
about starting another support group should move there. It is at:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/chiaddult/
There is no great ready made network to help adults with ADHD. You
have to work with what is there and maybe create something new. If
you want to do something with other about your ADHD, you need to get
involved. So join a support group. Meet other people. Just get
going.
