Subject: Immediate Attention!! US Senate
Vote This Week -- State Healthcare Protections Threatened!
Your health insurance benefits for AD/HD treatment may be endangered by legislation now before the US Senate. S. 1955, legislation in the US Senate that purports to help small businesses provide health care to their employees is actually an attempt to gut state health care protections for individuals with special health care needs like AD/HD.
S. 1955 (Sen. Enzi, R-WYO), would leave people underinsured, without comprehensive coverage, and would allow insurers to raise premiums for older workers and those with more intensive health care needs. S. 1955 would also override the most progressive state mental health parity laws and other mandated benefits in favor of a "one-size fits all" federal government mandate on states.
However, there is a proposed alternative bill, S. 2510, that addresses the problem of the uninsured in small businesses by allowing employees to buy into large pools modeled on the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program. Significantly for those with mental illness, S. 2510 maintains the applicability of all state parity laws and mandated benefit laws.
ACTION:
S. 1955 could be up for vote as soon as Thursday, May 11th!
