I heard about Tom's remarks. I understand and respect that religion
has worked for him (as it has many others) to overcome some of the
obsticles in life, but he should not push his successful treatment
plan on to others. I'm also dissapointed that CHADD's response did
not acknowledge that religion can play an effective role in a
treatment plan. It can. It's irronic that several CHADD chapters
meet at churches and yet CHADD did not acknowledge religion in it's
response. Is religion the "third rail" of psychology? Ever since
Freud labled religion as being for the weak, the real War of the
Worlds has been between psychology and religion. It's too bad.
I feel the therapeutic community should be more open and understanding
of the successes of the religious community, and the religious
community should be open and understanding of the success of the
therapeutic community. Again, we should each respect what each
individual has found to work for them, and not project our formula on
to each other.
