I put my son in karate after the school assured me they have dealt
with children with "mild autism".I explained my son has Asperger's and
they meet my son and he went to an intro class. All went well for 2
classes then my son refused to do a forward roll.He has SID also.I was
told that was ok too. They kicked him out.He didn't melt down.He told
the teacher he couldn't do it that he has tried before to do forward
rolls. He did try in class to do at least one.My husband witnessed the
whole thing. This is the second situation where my son has asked to
leave a class not because behavior but his refusal to do something. The
other class was an art class. He wanted all the boys to sit at one and
all the girls to sit at the other when a girl tried to sit next to him
he told her she couldn't because she was a girl and only boys could
sit at this table. In this situation the lead teacher pretty much told
me off in front of him and she wasn't going have him coming scaring
children in front of him.The co teacher pulled me aside as we were
leaving and explained my son did not know the kids could sit any where
and her co worker did not try to explain to my son the girl could sit
there. He had no idea he did something wrong until the teacher
approached me.The first situation disregarded as a learning experience
for me and my son bounced back from the situation within the day. With
the karate class I feel I was taken advantage of.I feel lied too.I am
talking to the director of the program tomorrow.I can even get over
the money but I don't want them taking advantage of children.Has
anyone dealt with situations like this or felt taken advantage of?
