I have been reading all  the postings and I just wonder if any of you have gotten straight answers from your doctors. My husband has to see his neurosurgeon this Thursday and I wonder if there are any questions we need to ask ? It seems we are all looking for something and being left in the dark. In almost every post there are things I can relate to with my husband, and it seems that no one person can get any help as to what to expect next. My husband and I  were talking the other day and throwing up scenarios with the doctors, like what if he says this is the best we can expect the rest is downhill. We feel like we are floating away in a sea of uncertainity. How many things can he keep dealing with.

There are some terrific books out there about this...One is How to talk to your Doctor.
One question is-what are my options?
Another is-how would you assess this problem.
Anything to get them to elaborate is helpful.
Good luck.

In my experience I've found consultants tend to be overpessimistic which I'm not sure is a good thing. Yes, it can in some circumstances motivate people to prove that the consultant is wrong but I suspect in most cases this approach is highly demotivating.

I have Type 2 Diabetes and my strategy is to read and read all about T2. I find that those in the medical profession tend to treat you differently if they know that your knowledge of your condition is pretty good.
