Hi, Gloria: The herniated disc is in my neck, cannot remember the exact disc number, but from what I've read, that location isn't associated with a lot of pain. It affects the nerves in my arms, hands, legs and feet. Sometimes it is an uncomfortable feeling, but not especially painful. It mostly happens when I've done something to strain my neck. Usually an Aleve helps. I do neck exercises to strengthen the muscles. My neurosurgeon thinks a lower disc was once herniated and healed itself and that this one will do the same. He's very conservative in advising surgery. I would need the fusion surgery if I decided to have surgery. He says that any disc above the fusion would be more likely to herniated. There seems to be a growing opinion that fusion surgery isn't such a good idea. Sarah
