Hello,
Before anyone who is on this list has a hysterectomy you should check out
the most informative site: www.hersfoundation.org and those of you who
have had hysterectomies, you should go there as well to tell your story.

I still have had pap smears every year, then recently, they saw something a
little funny, so I had another colposcopy, so now I'm at pap smears every
six months. I think they found glandular cells in my vagina which is not
something that really can happen. Your glandular cells come from higher up
in your cervix and then your uterus. I had a hysterectomy so I have
neither. I'm kind of wondering if I happen to have some growing in my
vagina, like an extension of my cervix?? So anyway, I would think it would
still be important to keep checking. Mine was adeno carcinoma (glandular)
so perhaps that is why they worry more. But then again, your vagina is
squamous cells, most cervical cancer is squamous cell cancer so I would
think it could happen. I'm over 7 years out from when I had my original
cancer and they still watch me like crazy!

i have a question. When I went to my yearly check-up with my gym-ob, he did
not preform a papsmear this time. He informed me that it was no longer
necessary to do a pap smear any longer after a hysterectomy is done since
there is very little change of getting cancer in vagina.
Now my question to everyone is have the been told the same thing by their
doctors.
