Jill,
My mother went through a similar situation, she went to her doctor in 1998, had a pap done and never heard from the doctor. She called the office and the girl who answered said to her that if the office does not call you, you have nothing to worry about. Needless to say the office never called. Well after 2 years of going to every different type of doctor and being told that she was "Going through her change" ( she was 50 ) she went to see my doctor. This was in May of 2001. One look and the doctor knew what it was, it was cervical cancer. ( Stage 3B squamous cell carcinoma ) She sent her to an oncologist who referred her somewhere else. We ended up traveling 80 miles per day to receive radiation. And we have a great hospital here that could have done it, less than 5 miles from her home. We hired an attorney and the doctor settled out of court for a sum much less than what we would have received from a judge ($220,000), but my mother was to tired to fight it anymore. She went through so much from 5 surgeries to chemo and radiation. I was by her side through the end ( she passed away June 19th 2003) She ended up not being willing to fight anymore, chemo wasn't working and the radiation burned her insides to the point that she needed urine and stool bags. I am not telling you this to scare you, I believe that the word cancer was enough, I want you to know her story and know that you have great reason to keep fighting. You have a young son and your chemo is working! Ask your doctor about internal radiation, that was the only thing that shrunk the tumor even a little. The American Cancer Society also has a chat for patients and families, I have gone there before my mother passed away, and found it touching to see all the fighters.
Hang in there and keep fighting!!!!

Please e-mail me more info. My name is Christine and I am 31 years old. I have stage 4 cervical cancer.I have a 17 month old son. After my son was born,I had a really bad pap and my obgyn never informed me or sent me for more tests. For months after my son was born I complained to my doctor of abnormal bleeding, headaches, nausea, vomiting, weight loss and severe pain in my pelvic and lower back.Finally,10 more months had gone by and this time he did a polupectomy. All 5 specimins came back malignant and the cancer ,thanks to him ...had advanced to stage 4.It spread to my liver, lymph nodes and my spine.I have been on three chemos including cisplatin, etopiside and one other.I have a rare type of cell called small cell carcinoma which spreads rapidly and is inoperable. So far I have had 7 rounds which to my oncologist is amazed that the tumors have shrunk more than 80%. When I was first diagnosed I was given 2 months to live if the chemo did not start working right away! I am greatful to be alive but I have a long way to go.(radiation, several months of lower dose chemo,etc...) I have been hospitalized with a fever of 105.3, I had six transfusions and the side effects from the chemo have caused neuropathy, severe constipation, migraines, constant vomiting, vision impairment and more.... I was hping to find alternatives to chemo.Could you please send some info? I would also like to chat.

Subject: [Cervical-Cancer] Hello.. new member..
Hello.. I found this website because I today I found out I have cervical
cancer. I'm a 20 yr old housewife from texas, just recently married in Dec.
of 04, with 3 beautiful step-children(whom we have custody of). I was once
pregnant but my son was stillborn on Christmas day of 02.I was quite shocked
to get diagnosed at my age, but I've noticed over the past couple of years
the statistics are showing that young women like me are getting cancer as
well. I was upset when I found out, but know that over the next few weeks,
treatment/procedures and surgery will help. I'm looking forward to making
new friends through this group who have been through what I'm about to be
going through. Thank you for welcoming me to your group.
Luv,
~Angel
