Hello!
My name is Barbara, and I was diagnosed with cervical cancer late
October 2001. My gyn did the colposcopy, and the pathology report
showed a cancerous legion. Now there are women who at this point
have conceived, carried and given birth to a child then had a
hysterectomy because cervical cancer is typically a very slow
developing cancer. I had my first appointment with my gyn/onc on
Dec 4 2001. He started out very matter of fact, talking cone
biopsies, etc, but once he took a look at me he went straight to a
biopsy under anesthesia. I was up to between a 1 and 2. I won't
get into how bad his office staff is...they didn't schedule my first
appointment with my rad/onc and chemo doctors until Jan 21, 2002.
By now I was up to a 3B (beyond the cervex, but not into the lymph
system). They did not do a hysterectomy because he said he could
not be certain of getting all the cancer. I had 9 weeks of external
radiation M-F and 6 hours of chemo every Tuesday. I had a week off
then had internal radiation (Breaky therapy) 18 long needles
inserted into the tumer (yeah, it's what you're thinking). This was
done twice during March 2002.
All my follow up appointments have been good, although I now have
problems I never had BC.
That's the shortened version. I'm joining because I believe we can
all help each other and people new to this. The Lord kept me here
for a reason.
Bless you all,
Barb
