When trying to get into shape, there are several steps involved. The first step is exercise. Even if you don't do anything else, you will see improvements if you exercise. Step two is proper diet. The proper blend of complex carbohydrates, protein and fat are very important. If you are trying to build muscle or lose fat, take in a higher percentage of protein, then carbs and last is fat. The protein will build lean muscle mass. This is important when adding muscle, and also when trying not to lose lean muscle tissue while losing fat. When it come's to carbohydrates, try to stick with low glicemic carbs. These carbs burn more slowly without spiking your blood/sugar levels. These come in the form of whole grain bread, brown rice, oats, vegetables, etc...The fat will come from the meat you eat, and preferably, from fish and flaxseed oils. Step three is drinking lots of water. Water fire's up the metabolism, lubricate's and hydrate's the body, and when drank prior to meals, will give you a full feeling so you will eat less. Step four is rest! Without proper rest and sleep, muscle gains and fatloss are next to impossible.
