An easy solution to the lunge is to do Step-ups (a.k.a vertical
lunges). You simply step up onto a bench or box with a set of
dumbles in your hands for added resistance. Individuals with knee
pain
typically uses the vertical lunge variation instead of Lunges.
Why are you doing back extensions for your abs? The back
extension
works your lower back primarily. There are many other exercises
you could be doing for your abs that don't involve excessive hip
action (e.g. crunches, regular sit ups, crunches on a stability ball
etc...)
Well I hope that helps. Good luck!
