>> ANNOUNCEMENTS <<
*************************

* Three New Groups and The CHADD Latino Forum!

Take a careful look through the Calendar this month. With the
beginning of the school year we have new support groups starting in
Antioch (East Contra Costa County) and Napa! We also have a new
session of the Women's Reading/Support Group (See Below).

Next Saturday we are sponsoring our first Spanish language conference
in San Jose which will in turn launch our first Spanish language
support group!

Sadly, the support group in Sonoma is windidng down. Please see if
you might be interested in the Napa or Marin groups.

* Women's Reading/Support Group - San Francisco

Using Sari Solden's first book, "Women with Attention Deficit
Disorder" and excerpts from other reading material as a basis for
discussion and self-exploration, our goal is to learn how to respect
our limits and build on our strengths.

The second group will meet for 8 sessions on alternate Monday
evenings beginning September 8, 2003. There is still room for 2 more.
Members are asked to be at all or most of the meetings, do the
reading and keep a journal.

Please contact Kali Grosberg if interested in joining, or if full,
getting on a waiting list for the next group. Also, email her for
information about other support that may be available to women.

<kali.g@...>

As with all of our meetings, members are free; nonmembers, we ask for
a donation. This group is by registration only.

"You Can Be In Research!"

by Lew Mills, PhD, MFT (Reprise Edition)

We all know that we don't know enough about ADHD. But how do you
suppose we find out more? As much as I enjoy the
schmooze-around-the-support-group method of discovering more about
ADHD, it never substitutes for what we can learn from rigorous
research. One of CHADD's principle commitments is to evidence-based
science about what ADHD is and how to treat it most effectively.
Where would we be without research?

But did you know that you can help out at this research level? Many
ADHD investigators are looking for "subjects" for their studies. It
is not so "guinea pig"-like as you might think. Sometimes there is a
reward! Other times there is some information that you will learn
about yourself or your family member from participating. There may
also be treatments for you at no cost. Always there is the
satisfaction of helping move science forward in this important area.

CHADD frequently gets asked to help recruit volunteers, and since we
support this activity, we are happy to do so. On our web site there
is a page dedicated to informing you about currently open research in
which you can participate in Northern California. This is at
www.chaddnorcal.org/research

We have just recently revised the Research Page with intriguing
studies on sustained release medications, images of your brain,
intelligence and achievement testing, and more!

There is also a link there to a similar page on the National website
which has more research studies from other areas or that you can
participate in by long distance.

(If you contact one of these studies and they are no longer accepting
subjects, please let us know so that we can remove the listing. Thank
you.)

Send suggestions of links about research requests to webmaster@...
