IDEA Full Funding Alert: Contact Your House Representative by 3/20

CEC is asking all its members to contact their Representative in the US
House by March 20, 2001, and ask him or her to co-sponsor H.R. 737, the
"Mandatory IDEA Full Funding Act of 2001."

CEC has endorsed H.R. 737, the "Mandatory IDEA Full Funding Act of
2001," because it would guarantee full funding for Part B of IDEA within
5 years. The House Budget Committee is expected to consider this
important piece of legislation on Wednesday, March 21, 2001. It is
important that as many House members as possible cosponsor (sign-onto)
the bill to ensure that the FY 2001 budget includes more federal funding
for IDEA.

You can help by doing either one of the following immediately, but
before March 21:

1. Go to the CEC website at http://www.cec.sped.org
Select Public Policy and Advocacy/Legislative Action Center. At the top
of that page, select Legislative Action Center (or just go to
<http://capwiz.com/cek/home/)>http://capwiz.com/cek/home/)
Once you are in the Action Center, you will find a model letter on IDEA
full funding you can easily personalize on-line and send instantly to
your member of the House of Representatives about supporting H.R. 737;
or

2. Call the LOCAL OFFICE of your Representative (not the DC office) and
ask him or her to cosponsor H.R. 737, the "Mandatory IDEA Full Funding
Act of 2001". New Representatives are signing on every day so if the
office tells you that your Representative is already a cosponsor; please
thank them for their support!

To locate a district phone number for your House Representative, go to
the CEC Action Center (see above) and select Elected Officials (or just
go to

and type in your zip code.
You will be given directory information for your House Representative
including their local district phone number.

When you call, ask to speak to the staff person who handles education
issues. Make sure to specifically ask your Representative to co-sponsor
H.R. 737, the "Mandatory IDEA Full Funding Act of 2001." You are
encouraged to use this opportunity to educate the staff person on how
increased funding for IDEA will improve services for children with
disabilities by providing more resources for student services, helping
to address the issue of increasing caseloads, and other resource
problems you have experienced.
