Dear Center of Attention Subscribers,

CHADD of Northern California has created a new online, comprehensive
calendar:

http://www.CHADDNorcal.org/calendar

We hope you will check it often to learn about lectures, Parent-to-Parent
classes, and discussion groups in your area.

For the next month or two, this list will receive a reminder of the URL. But
donıt worry, you wonıt receive much more mail than that!

Please share with all who might have an interest.

In the meantime, if you are in the Palo Alto area, come join us for two
lectures by nationally known ADHD experts (Blake Taylor, who has ADHD, and
Dr. Steven Hinshaw, who studies it):

SPRING 2009
SILICON VALLEY CHADD EVENTS
PUBLIC WELCOME!

April 1/Wed: 7:30pm

Blake Taylor, author of ADHD and Me,
What I Learned from Lighting Fires at the Dinner Table

Written when he was only 16 and 17 years old, Blakeıs memoir is an honest,
funny, and engaging day-to-day account of what it is like to live with ADHD.
Tonight, he will share those experiences with the group, including the
realistic strategies he used to deal with ADHD challenges. Blake is majoring
in Molecular & Cell Biology and French at UC-Berkeley and plans to pursue a
career in neuroscience. He is a recipient of the UC Berkeley Alumni
Association Leadership Award for two years in a row. Blake's mother, Nadine
Taylor-Barnes, figures prominently in Blake's book, and we are pleased that
she can join us to share her experiences, too!

June 3/Wed.: 7:30 pm
Dr. Stephen Hinshaw, prominent ADHD researcher
and author of The Triple Bind:
Saving Our Teenage Girls from Today's Pressures
Our girls are at risk, says psychologist and prominent ADHD authority
Stephen Hinshaw. Societal expectations, cultural trends, and conflicting
messages are creating what he calls ³the Triple Bind² for our girls and
young women. That bind is putting more and more girls at risk for
aggression, eating disorders, depression, and even suicide. He recently
conducted research following girls with ADHD into young adulthood, and he
will include in his talk results from that research and the particular way
the Triple Bind might affects girls with ADHD. Hinshaw is chair of the
Psychology Department at the University of California, Berkeley.

Discussion Groups:
§ Adults with ADHD: 3rd Wed. 7: 30-9:30 p.m. (monthly, except December);
3/18, 4/15, 5/20, 6/17, etc.
§ Partners of Adults with AD/HD: 2nd Tues. 7:30-9:30 p.m. (Ever other
month: March, May, July)

Location: The Friends Meeting House, 957 Colorado St., Palo Alto (the large
building at the back of the property). $5 donation suggested (non-members).
