>> ANNOUNCEMENTS <<
*************************

September 14th is National ADHD Awareness Day

National AD/HD Awareness Day, September 14, is
right around the corner, and CHADD encourages you
to plan to make a difference. CHADD and the
National Mental Health Association (NMHA) will
mark the day by supporting the Attention Deficit
Disorder Association (ADDA) in its efforts to
educate the U.S. Senate about AD/HD through a
Capitol Hill briefing.

You can play a vital role on this important day,
as well, by sharing information with your friends
and neighbors. What follows are five ways you can
make a difference in your community on National
AD/HD Awareness Day.

1) Share your experience with friends. Sometimes
it's the one-on-one contact that breaks down
barriers, eliminates stigma and enlightens people
about AD/HD. Make it a point to commemorate the
day by sharing with five friends your experiences
dealing with the disorder.

2) Inform your local newspaper editor about
National AD/HD Awareness Day. Offer to
participate in a story or to write an essay or
opinion/editorial about your experiences. CHADD
Fact Sheet # 1, "The Disorder Named AD/HD," will
provide you with the basic information you need
for these efforts. The fact sheet can be found at
the following link:

3) Give everyone in your area the opportunity to
learn more about AD/HD on a regular basis by
encouraging your local library to subscribe to
Attention!(r) magazine. A simple e-mail to
attention@... <mailto:attention@...>
by the library will initiate the process.

4) Encourage your friends and family to join
CHADD. CHADD offers its members the opportunity
to be a part of a social movement that makes a
difference for people who have AD/HD. Member
benefits include access to leading experts
through our "Ask the Expert" chat to a
subscription to Attention! magazine. To become a
member, visit the following site:

5) Make sure the influential people you come in
contact with understand AD/HD. Ask your local
school officials if teachers are trained to work
with students who have the disorder. Encourage
your doctor to learn more about AD/HD, as he or
she may have undiagnosed patients with the
disorder. Remember, the experts can't know
everything, and it is up to you to make sure the
ones you know understand AD/HD.

To learn more about National AD/HD Awareness Day,
visit the following section of the CHADD Web site
(Link:
where you can link to a kit of materials provided
by ADDA.

Let's make September 14 a special day by working
to make a difference for those living with AD/HD
and their families. Good luck with your efforts!
