Hi Kanani,
I too am new to the group. My daughter is 11 and diagnosed with epilepsy last
June, 2008. She is taking Zonisomide so not sure about Keppra. She is the
same....active, driven and fun loving. This med doesn't seem to change her
disposition. She still has a seizure every 3 to 4 weeks and they keep upping
the med.
My daughter's seizures last 3 to 4 minutes, but the after part lasts about 6
hours - first she is non responsive, disoriented for about 1 hour then bad
headache, vomiting and can't rest. The last one she had was with a babysitter.
She turned blue and the sitter started CPR but didn't get very far since our
daughter started breathing on her own. It is very unsetteling for sure.
How do you deal with her being out of your site? That is my biggest fear - she
is so active and outside as much as possible. I'm always afraid she will have a
seizure and no one around. She's usually with friends and the kids in the
neighborhood know she has seizures but still. Also, we're at the point where
day care is not an option and not sure what to do since we both work.
Take care and best wishes. We're in Everett so maybe we'll meet up at a support
group somewhere.
Cari

seen 'dulled' with medication. She is currently on Keppra, but the neurologist
wants to switch her to Topomax (within 2 days of starting Keppra, she became
very moody, silent and even angry).
