Hi Kanani,
I have a 15 y.o. daughter with epilepsy since she was 10 months old. She currently takes 2000 mg keppra 2 x's per day, 20 mg. Clobozam 2 x's per day and 275 mg. of zonegran in the evening. She did take topomax several years ago, but there was no change in her seizures, so we took her right back off it. She averages 1 to 3 tonic clonic seizures per month.
Different dugs are so different for each person. Chelsi didn't seem to have any side effects (or good results) from drugs (except excessive sleepiness the last 3 months and loss of appetite), but what works for one doesn't work for the other. All's you can really do is try it. Unfortunately they are just a crap shoot and our kids are the guinea pigs. You just never know which combination of what drugs is going to work. I've read of some people having TERRIBLE behavior reactions on small doses of drugs that others do just fine on.
I'm not aware of any support groups, but I'm in Yakima.
Best Regards!
Sue

My 12 year old step-daughter was recently diagnosed with Epilepsy. In the last 2 months she has has had 6 generalized seizures. She is a very active, driven, and fun-loving 12 year old girl. Some of that we have seen 'dulled' with medication. She is currently on Keppra, but the neurologist wants to switch her to Topomax (within 2 days of starting Keppra, she became very moody, silent and even angry).
So I have 2 questions for the 'peanut gallery';
1 - Anyone on Topomax? And if so, what do you think about it?
2 - Does anyone know of a 'support group' for kids within the greater Seattle area?
Thanks!
Kanani
