Re: [Cent_Wa_Epilepsy_Support] question

I'm so glad I read your email.  I usually delete them due to having TOO MANY.  My husband has gran mal seizures and no health insurance and I make about $30,000 a year.  We were able to find a social worker at Harborview and he now gets free medical help and FREE MEDICATION which is usually sponsored by certain pharmacutils (sp?) I'm in a hurry sorry.  Anyway, he sees DR Miller and we are very very happy with him.  WE are currently in collection from ambulance bills (from problems 2 years ago) here in our local area (we are about an hour away from Harborview).  I'm so glad you are asking for help and hope my answers or others are giving you some light for your son.

Good Luck!  Email back if you have any quesitons.

p.s. - My husband feels seizurish with florescent lights, police lights, and he also had seizures looking back and forth at a mirror doing self portrait and during a snow storm with the windshield wipers.  We chose to live in a bus zone and walking distance of immenities since my husband does lose his drivers license very few years for 6 months at a time.  They only tell you not to drive if you have an "unconscience" seizure.

Hello,

I have a question and am wondering if anyone can help?
My son (who is now 25 years old), had a grand mal epileptic seizure 6 years ago and was fully tested with a battery of tests costing $6,000, without finding any problems.  He did not begin seizure medication at that point and was not advised to.  Six months later he began driving again.
A few years later he has had several more seizures all occurring while watching television, not all of them were grand mal, some were petite mal.  All the seizures were spaced years apart so none of them were close together.

He is reluctant to go to a physician because he can't afford further and possible fruitless testing, as he doesn't have medical insurance.  He is also afraid he might be reported by the doctor to the DMV, even though he hasn't had a seizure for over a year.  Without a drivers license, he'd be unable to drive to work, as we don't have bus service where we live.  Without a driver's license, he'd be unable to drive to work and might lose his job.

Is there a sympathetic physician in the greater Seattle area who might be willing to prescribe anti-seizure medication for him without at all the complications?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Melanie

I don't know about Washington's laws, but Oregon's require the doctors to report seizures. If your son has had all his seizures while watching TV , ...
