Let me say that I am sorry to hear about your childs situation. We, too were not at all happy with our first neurologist. He was clinically challenged, unco-operative, vague and arrogant.
When he suggested that we cut a hole in our son's skull cap and attach electrodes directly to his brain, that was the last straw for me! I immediately contacted my son's primary care physician and threw a hissy fit. We were referred to Dr. Narus in Medford. He is one of the top childrens neurologists in Oregon with scads of experience and he goes to Doernbeckers once a month to practice.
We found out that the MRI that our son was given was the wrong resolution and the EEG was too short and basically useless. He will be getting the right tests done in March.
Now, I must apologize to this group as I felt horrible for joining. The stories of the other parents and yours are much more frightening than ours. Our son started having seizures at 11 and1/2 yrs. old and has had 6 as far as we can deduce, he is now 13. We may still not have known about them if he hadn't had a gran mal in front of me while napping on the couch. He has nocturnal seizures only. 2000mg of Keppra a day has, so far, kept him seizure free for the last 3 and 1/2 months. Dr. Narus has since told us that he has about a 75% chance of outgrowing them. We are thankful and we are saddened that anyone has to live with the heartache of seeing your child go through this and being helpless to fix it for them.
What I really want to say to you is, get every opinion you can and don't stop until you find someone that you and your child are comfortable with. Don't worry about hurting the doctors feelings. Go with your gut. If a doctor blew me off like yours is doing to you, I would be done with them. And finally, if the docs at Doernbeckers told you to seek medical care in a certain situation and you trusted them, do it!!!!!!
God bless you and your child! I hope for the best for you.
Becky
