This is Sam, Josh’s
mom. He is now 20 and was “diagnosed” with epilepsy at the age of
19. I found out he has been having absent seizures his whole life and didn’t
know it. he is having a really hard time and I agree that if talks to someone
else that has seizure too it will help him a lot but I can’t get him to
do it. he has so many up and downs with his moods and most of the time says he doesn’t
have a reason to be happy or care. I’m really worried but know there isn’t
anything I can do. Any suggestions on how I can get him to talk to someone that
is having seizures? I tried to get him to check out the web page but he wouldn’t
and as far as I know there isn’t a support group close by, we live in
Tenino and he doesn’t drive.
Thanks,
Sam loving Josh
(probably too much and be overly protective, can’t help it L)

[Cent_Wa_Epilepsy_Support] Keppra
I myself take Keppra (2000 mg. a day) and I know the
side effect of being tired is very bad to begin with but then does get better
after about a couple weeks. I have been actually trying to get past that
myself. It's hard. Sorry to hear about the breakthroughs, that's what got me on
Keppra. Good luck and hey make sure he talks to someone else who is in the same
position he is, it's very hard to have seizures and discuss your feelings with
other people that don't truly know what you're talking about. It honestly
helps. Trina

Hi, I posted messages about my son Evan starting to
have seizures again after 3+ years of being seizure free. He has been
on Gabapentin most of that time and we were ready to totally take him
off (we had tried before when he was around 9).
So anyway... we've increased his dosage to the max
effective level and things seems to be going OK and then another
seizure after a week and half! Yesterday, his neurologist
suggested Keppra. We are starting him out low: 1/2 tab in the morning and
1/2 before bed. This morning after about a half hour after his
dose, he didn't want to eat and was almost acting 'drunk. Of course, my
son kept insisting he was fine while practically nodding
off. He's 14 and is tired of us worrying about him (No, there's no
chance he's drinking or anything...) I was wondering if anyone has had this effect.
Does this last or will it go away over time? We
have to keep increasing his dose and I'm already worried about
his school work as it is!
