Hi Rachel,
This is Mineko from the Epilepsy Foundation Northwest. I'm sorry to hear that you've been getting mixed information.
Anyone can have a seizure if the brain is stressed by infection fever, injury, lack or oxygen or poisoning. Seizures that happen more than once for no apparent reason are defined as epilepsy. Epilepsy and seizure disorder are the same. People started the word "seizure disorder" because there was a lot of stigma attached to the word "epilepsy."
Epilepsy is a neurological disorder that produces sudden, brief surges of electrical energy in the brain. These episodes, called seizures, can be recorded through EEG. Seizures may alter a person's awareness, movement or actions for a few seconds or minutes.
Epilepsy Foundation website has many great articles about epilepsy: http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/answerplace/index.cfm
Please let me know if there is any more questions. My office hours are 11am-3:45pm, Mon-Thur.
Sincerely,
Mineko Sterling

Subject: [Cent_Wa_Epilepsy_Support] Im new at this....
I have a 15 year old son, diagnosed 1 1/2 years ago with seisures.
I am learning about everything all at once by being on the phone and
the internet, Nobody told me until 3 weeks ago that my son has
epilepsy - seisures and epilepsy are one in the same?
Then when I asked his doctor if trevor is epileptic he said he wasnt
sure?
I am so confused and feel like I am getting mixed information and we
are getting ready to go have a meeting with all his teachers on Feb
1st. I dont want to look like a idiot. How do you know what to do or
if your doing it right? Thank you for any answers as I need to help my
son but am frustrated at this point. Sincerely,Rachel
