Subject: Cancer screenings not worth much?

American Cancer Society does a double take

"Overpromised" and "exaggerated"… Those are words I never
thought I'd hear about the benefits of cancer screenings.

Yet that's exactly what the chief medical officer of the American Cancer
Society told the New York Times recently.

Yes, believe it or not, the American Cancer Society is reworking its
position on early screening for breast and prostate cancer.

"I'm admitting that American medicine has overpromised when it comes to
screening. The advantages to screening have been exaggerated," Dr. Otis
Brawley, chief medical officer of the American Cancer Society, told the
Times.

Whoops! Try explaining that to the thousands who followed the "early
detection" advice into unnecessary early treatments, and are now living
with the effects.

Of course, you know that this is exactly what I've been telling you all
along. Too bad no one listened to me years ago. It would have saved
millions of Americans from needless, painful and expensive surgeries.

As always, unless you have a real reason, do what I've advised all
along: Don't bother with cancer screenings.

That's mainstream advice now.

Screening the screeners,
William Campbell Douglass II, M.D.

Description : This document is the same as Word document of same name above,
except the Word version has active internal navigation links, whereas these are
not available in a PDF file. The advantages of the PDF version are that it is
perhaps more universally useable than a Word document and PDF files are far less
likely to contain viruses than Word documents. You can send this version as a
far more acceptable email attachment than a Word document, which is inherently
suspicious as an email attachment.

Cancer Decisions® - Personalized Oncology?
http://www.cancerdecisions.com/content/view/284/2/lang,english/

As Ralph W. Moss makes clear on the above linked page, Personalized Oncology is
mainly just talk, and because media coverage has changed patient expectations,
doctors have to, in effect, lie to their patients about what they are getting.

Moss concludes, "Personalized oncology sounds great, but is unlikely to be
implemented until some influential individuals within the establishment stick
their necks out and point out that NCI has been on the wrong side of this debate
for years. Until then, personalized oncology is likely to remain just an
attractive slogan rather than a real paradigm shift."

Cancers Can Vanish Without Treatment, but How?

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/27/health/27canc.html?_r=1 By Gina Kolata
Published: October 26, 2009

Call it the arrow of cancer. Like the arrow of time, it was supposed to point in
one direction. Cancers grew and worsened.

But as a paper in The Journal of the American Medical Association noted last
week, data from more than two decades of screening for breast and prostate
cancer call that view into question. Besides finding tumors that would be lethal
if left untreated, screening appears to be finding many small tumors that would
not be a problem if they were left alone, undiscovered by screening. They were
destined to stop growing on their own or shrink, or even, at least in the case
of some breast cancers, disappear.

The old view is that cancer is a linear process, said Dr. Barnett Kramer,
associate director for disease prevention at the National Institutes of Health.
A cell acquired a mutation, and little by little it acquired more and more
mutations. Mutations are not supposed to revert spontaneously.

So, Dr. Kramer said, the image was an arrow that moved in one direction. But
now, he added, it is becoming increasingly clear that cancers require more than
mutations to progress. They need the cooperation of surrounding cells and even,
he said, the whole organism, the person, whose immune system or hormone levels,
for example, can squelch or fuel a tumor.

Cancer, Dr. Kramer said, is a dynamic process.

It was a view that was hard for some cancer doctors and researchers to accept.
But some of the skeptics have changed their minds and decided that, contrary as
it seems to everything they had thought, cancers can disappear on their own.

"At the end of the day, I'm not sure how certain I am about this, but I do
believe it," said Dr. Robert M. Kaplan, the chairman of the department of health
services at the School of Public Health at the University of California, Los
Angeles, adding, "The weight of the evidence suggests that there is reason to
believe."

Autoimmune Disease Cells Harnessed to Fight Cancer

Autoimmune disease has devastating consequences for healthy tissue. Now,
in mice, the same cells that can drive the body to destroy its own
tissue
have been used to fight cancer.

The cells are a recently discovered type of immune cell called Th17.
These
cells play a key role in autoimmune disease - in which the immune system
mistakenly identifies the body's own tissues as foreign and attack them.
We already know that some people's immune systems have a natural ability
to fight some types of cancer. But how exactly this works--and why it
doesn't always do so--isn't known.

Hypnosis can Help in Cancer Treatment
Research made in the last decade shows that hypnosis can cure many
medical problems with no side effect. Hypnosis is now successfully used
in different areas such as quitting smoking, weight loss, stress
reduction, stopping negative thoughts...

Dear NaturalNews readers,

NaturalNews Tip of the day (from Mike):

Did you know that juicing and drinking a lot of cruciferous vegetables
can deplete your body of certain micronutrients like iodine? If you're
drinking a lot of juice, you need to replenish those trace minerals by
eating seaweed or taking iodine supplements (like Nascent Iodine).
Eating kelp (or taking kelp supplements) also helps replenish your
iodine levels, which are crucial for preventing both breast cancer and
prostate cancer. Read more about iodine at:
http://www.naturalnews.com/iodine.html
