Dog may have advanced cancer   Message List

Does anyone have any ideas for a liver cleanse or other treatment to
try on my dog (small German Spitz Bear 8.5 years old, was 17lbs now
11.5lbs, he was a little hiker, swimmer dog prior to getting sick last
year) who may have advanced cancer?

He has been sick with immune mediated arthritis for a bit over a year
(which he got from one day to the next), got diabetes from the
prednisone and then cateracts from the diabetes. He just had cataract
surgery 08/08/07 and can see again (bless his heart) but threw-up for
the first time yesterday. He has had diarrhea almost ongoing since he
has been sick that we've been trying to control with metranidozole and
lately slippery elm and okra-pepsin. Nothing worked that well, but
stool wasn't too bad. Since his eye surgery I gave him pumpkin and it
totally firmed his stool. However now he has been refusing to eat a
lot of things including pumpkin for several weeks on and off. He has
had occasional red blood at the end of a bowel movement. His stool
saple the other day showed negative for occult blood though, but he did
have blood again today, each time it seems only if he has diarrhea.

He threw up again today and I took him up to his internal specialist
who has a 2"+ file on him. He has also been going to several holistic
vets extensively, but primarily for treatment of immune mediated
arthritis and diabetes.

We took another ultrasound, he had about four last year and one in
early January this year that showed no problems (only a hepatitis which
they were staying was related to the prednisone use) and today there is
a golf ball size mass in the liver, a ping-pong ball size mass in the
spleen and masses throughout the liver. They took a liver aspirate
today that should be back at 3PM tomorrow.

Any suggestions. He is our baby.
