Description
Welcome to the CMT Family Support Group. CMT, Charcot Marie Tooth Disease is the most common peripheral neuropathy that affects 1 in 2,500 people, which is over 2 million worldwide!!! About 150,000 people in the U.S. alone have CMT . It is also known as Hereditary Motor Sensory Neuropathy (HMSN).
This group is for individuals with CMT, as well as their family, friends, caregivers and medical professionals who are seeking information and support. We share laughs and tears and the latest in CMT research. Members are encouraged to share their personal experiences living with CMT either as a patient or a family member or a caregiver. Members are also encouraged to ask questions to help understand in order to cope with the disease, and learn about options to enhance ones quailty of life.
Our theme song is Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb".
One of our members, Joel has given us profound words to live by, "Always be yourself..That's respectful and respected."
The owner is Robyn. Robyn has lived with CMT her whole life, growing up with a mother who was severely affected with the disease. She, herself was diagnosed with CMT, and is now a mother of a child with CMT.
The group is moderated by Kathy.
This site is dedicated in the memory of Charlotte McLeroy, whose spirit soars free.
And also dedicated in the memory of Cheryl Madden, whose spirit shines so bright despite her premature departure from our physical world.
